Sippy Cup Question - anyone go cold turkey and take bottles away?
Sorry for so many questions - Today I decided to go cold turkey again with the bottles and take them away. DD already refused her morning sippy (she tosses it across the room all the time when she knows there is milk in it). I figure she will eventually drink if she is thirsty. I plan to not offfer her juice, water - just milk all day in her sippy. Anyone have any success with this tactic? Last time i did this - she boycotted milk for 5 days not drinking anything whether it was from a bottle or sippy. So im alittle nervous. Please share DD is 18 months.

Re: Sippy Cup Question - anyone go cold turkey and take bottles away?
We went cold turkey with DD at 12 1/2 month. She NEVER drank milk and still doesn't to this day. She drinks primarily water and once a day we allow 1/2 water 1/2 juice. That didn't start until about 2 years old though.
I think the best approach is to offer nothing but milk until they drink, but my DD refused. She just doesn't like it. So we make sure she gets her calcium in other ways.

We went cold turkey the day after she turned 1. I sold the bottles on ebay and there was no turning back. The first day was rough, but by the second day she was doing better with the cup and realized she wouldn't be getting a bottle. We did cold turkey with the binky too. It's the only way to do it IMO. Good luck!

A good friend of mine was having trouble getting her daughter off the bottle so she made a big deal out of it. She told her daughter that on a certain day they were going to go the PED and give her all of the bottles to give to the new babies. They got all dressed up to do it and made it an event, her daughter ended up being excited to give up her bottles and was looking forward to the day.

Hey Antoinette! I did this when Isabella was close to 2...she was having 1 naptime bottle and it was driving me nuts cause I was scared of her teeth being screwed up. So I just took it away. She didn't drink milk for probaly 6 months. I just made sure she ate lots of cheese, yogurt and other dairy. She then started drinking a quarter to half a cup a day from a cup with a straw. Maybe if you buy one of throse twisty straws and use a regular cup she'll get excited to use it.

Cold Turkey with both DC's around 11 months. We had no issues though. Maybe because they were very young and both nursed for a long time.

We did cold turkey - 3 - 4 daysr and about 3 versions of sippys later - we were good - Plan to go to Target or BRU every day to buy a different one!
I sent you a FM a few weeks ago about our experience. Since she wasn't drinking milk, I made sure she got her calcium through yogurt, cheese and I spoon fed her oatmeal made with LOTs of milk. (The sweetened sugary oatmeal packs - she loved it!)
