Re: slate as a kitchen floor

I don't have it but I love the way it looks.

The only things I would be worried about are how cold it will get, if it stains, and how easily it cracks if something is dropped on it.

Re: slate as a kitchen floor

I saw it used on a home improcement show and they had a problem with it. The person that put it down did a horrible job at it. Because natural slate varies they had some low spots and some high spots. I would ask to see it installed at either a show room or a possible customers house before I went with that. Also the second things is it retaining heat or coldness. I am not sure if it would do that but in my old bathroom I had some pieces of it on a pump cover and it would retain them both to my knowledge. Good luck and sorry I couldn't help more.

I love the slate tiles, but we could only find it in dark colors and we wanted a little lighter. So we found porcelain tiles that looked like slate. We got it from Old Country Tile in Port Jeff, its called waterfalls and it comes in a few colors.

I wouldn't use slate in a kitchen. It scuffs very easily.

Re: slate as a kitchen floor

I have it in my bathroom and I must say that while I thought it would be really cold in the winter, it wasn't!

We had to seal the tiles also with some type of treatment to put in the shower, I love it!!!!

We used very colorful tiles too and it looks really awesome.
