Sleeping through - BTDT moms
For those who DC's starting sleeping through the night by 2-3 mos, do you think it was just luck, genetics, or do you have tips/tricks you can share?
TIA

Re: Sleeping through - BTDT moms
Lily was sleeping through the night at 6 weeks old. I think it was a combination of our work and her genes (luckily, she takes after me - I'm an awesome sleeper!)
What we did that I think helped: 1. Fed her every three hours during the day. They say that if a baby is fuller, they can sleep longer. 2. Naps during the day were in the tv room, with the tv on, and the lights on. 3. Sleeping at night was quiet - lights off, no talking to her, no stimulation of any kind. 4. White noise. During the summer - air conditioner, during the winter - white noise machine.

Re: Sleeping through - BTDT moms
my daughter started doing a 6 hour stretch at 3 weeks. by 10 weeks, was doing 10 hours. honestly, i think its mostly luck. its her temperment (well, it probably helps that mommy and daddy love to sleep too ). but shes now 9.5 months, and still a very good sleeper. the onyl thing i can say definityl helped was as per my ped, i fed her every 3 hours durign the day - from when she woek- 7 AM till 6 PM. also, i swaddled for naps and night sleep. she loved being swaddled. but mostly, i think its her temperment

Re: Sleeping through - BTDT moms
i honestly think it was combination. some things i did: not come running to hrr the second she cried.. i gave her a chance to soothe herself i always looked at the monitor - video monitor - to see if she was crying awake or asleep> Sometimes, not, sure why, she cried in her sleep. I didn' wake her than, by picking her up.
i didn't believe in 'never wake a sleeping baby' philosphy. I had her on schedule, where I woke her up when she needed to eat - so she regulated her cycle and knew when day/night was.
slumber bear - swear by him! his unique feature was that it has a motion sensor that goes off when baby cries... that helped! heartbeat sound when ever she awoke.
but as I said, I think a lot of it was her aswell.

Re: Sleeping through - BTDT moms
My DD is 10 weeks and sleep 8-10 hours a night. I think the miracle blanket has played a huge role in it! Without it, she will not sleep for long stretches at all! It probably also is temperament because she always was a sleepy baby and had to be woken for feedings in the beginning.

Re: Sleeping through - BTDT moms
Hmmm...little bit of both.
Around 3 months they started sleeping from about 12-5. So finally around 3 1/2 months I started putting them down in their cribs awake for their two naps (instead of napping whenever and wherever they wanted). And then I started skipping their last feeding around 10ish and put them in their cribs at 7. Then they would wake up around 10 and DH and I would let them cry it out for at least 15 minutes. By the 2-3rd night their was not much issue and they started sleeping later for us.
I think if you can get them on a schedule it works. I have a really good sleeper and an okay sleeper, but it worked for us. Now with the schedule i find my big time sleeper goes to bed the minute we put them to bed, but the other one will hang out in his crib until he is ready to go to sleep because he knows it's bedtime.

Re: Sleeping through - BTDT moms
few things
-she takes after DH who is a great sleeper -white noise machine (huge help) -miracle blanket for a few weeks -bedtime routine and predictable bedtime -putting her down awake without any crutches to fall asleep like the swing, rocking, bottle, nursing (if you put them to sleep like that then they will wake more often to look for it) she learned to fall asleep independently and that helps so much. good luck!

We do all of these things and we also swaddle. My DS will be 10 wks tomorrow and sleeps 4 hours at the most. I'm not a good sleeper though so I can't blame him for not being one. I honestly don't see anything else we could try to get him to sleep longer. We're just hoping it will happen naturally.

Same here. I also swaddle her at night. She sleeps from 10 to 5-6 in the morning. She is 2 and 1/2 months.

Re: Sleeping through - BTDT moms
Honestly, luck most likely. Some things that maybe helped--We put him in his own room around this time, so maybe that helped him sleep better (quieter). And he had colic most late afternoons, early evenings and that seemed to just knock him out. And I took him for walks almost ever day eventhough it was winter at this point, and the walks seemed to tire him.
