Sleepwalking
So since my kids have been born, I've had a few instances of sleepwalking. Last week, my DH heard a racket and woke up to find me trying to open our bedroom window..he said what are you doing and I mumbled something about the window and then started walking into my sons' room to open their window! He stopped me, then I came around, looked at him and said oh I don;t have to open any windows what am I doing. A while ago, I sat up in bed and started talking gibberish and he tried to wake me and couldn't. He was all freaked out! Anyone else experience this and what is it caused by??

Re: Sleepwalking
Apparently I used to sleepwalk quite a bit as a kid...I even started angrily screaming at my twin brother at 2am or 3am once when we were teens. I'm not 100% sure what the cause is, but my parents said that it always seemed to be triggered by extra stress or anxiety in my life (I was somewhat of a sensitive kid). Are you experiencing any more stress than usual lately?

Re: Sleepwalking
I used to do this a LOT. Especially when I was younger. But I did it a few times while married and it scared the cr@p out of DH.
I think stress does cause it.
I read up a lot on it and they recommend Melatonin- the natural sleep supplement - at night, they say it cuts down on night terrors, sleep walking etc
It definitely helped me a lot.

Re: Sleepwalking
Thanks! I don't think I have more stress-well we are in the process of buying a house but that is going relatively smoothly. I will try the melatonin. I think I am also going to put a gate at the top of my stairs so I don't fall if it happens again!

Re: Sleepwalking
I'm not sure the gate is a good idea - you could fall trying to get over it.
I used to talk to my sis and she'd talk back to me - different converstaions but we were polite and waited for the other to finish.

Re: Sleepwalking
I did this when I had a fever and it spiked in the middle of the night. I'm pretty sure that's not you case though.
I think it's caused from something to do with REM sleep. You are supposed to be in paradoxical sleep where your body is basically paralyzed from moving while you are in your deepest sleep periods of the night. Something happens where some people don't actually end up with the paralyzed portion and start acting out their dreams.

Re: Sleepwalking
I've been sleepwalking & talking since I was a kid. I even went outside when I was about 12.
Now I just run out of bed freaking out about spiders in my sleep - . DH usually has to catch me while I'm running for my life down the hall.

I'm no expert, but I kind of agree with this. I used to go up & down the stairs without a problem in my sleep, but I think adding a new variable like a gate might make it more dangerous...
As a kid I tripped over a laundry basket in the hall at the top & almost went flying down the stairs so my parents just made sure to always keep the hall clear of obstructions.

Re: Sleepwalking
When I was a kid I slepwalked , probably until about 14 or so.
I used to do the most bizarre things and then one day, I just stopped. I really dont know what triggered it.

Re: Sleepwalking
I had a habit of sleepwalking, as a kid, whenever I was running a fever. I'd drag my blankets off my bed, and stand at the top of our stairs!!! Never fell, though. Mary

Re: Sleepwalking
I did when I was younger. I don't know if I still do. DH is too much of a heavy sleeper to notice. Last episode I remember is about 10 years ago.
I have a few stories.
I do know that when I was made aware of it I clearly remembered it was like a very vivid dream and I was doing what I was dreaming.

Re: Sleepwalking
i did it as a kid. tried to leave my house a few times, woke up under a table, in the bathtub (no water). i would even talk to my parents when they asked me what i was doing. they ended up booby (spell?) trapping the house so they would always hear me if i tried to "escape" . i grew out of it. maybe ask your dr.?

Re: Sleepwalking
My DH sleep walks A LOT!
I have a lot of funny stories, but at 2am I don't find them funny.
He will wake up and fight with me (cursing and all ) I usually try to tell him to go back to bed. If he leaves the room, I will listen to make sure he doesn't go into DDs room or leave the house.
I have been trying to get him to go to a sleep clinic but he says they can't do anything for him and he just thinks it's hilarious!

OMG I can't tell you how many times I'd either wake up in the tub or (more often) woke up to a stripped bed only to find all of my blankets, sheets & pillow in the tub! My mom thought it was hysterical!! What's up with that?! I also thought our living room couch was a trampoline a few times
