Slomins for Heating Oil
Any experiences with them? Good or Bad?
They came to my door today and thought I would do some research before I leave the company I have used for many, many years. The only problem that I do have with my current company is that they won't automatically take money out of my checking account each month for my bill and need to mail a check every single month and it is a hassle.

Re: Slomins for Heating Oil
IMHO: DONT do it.
We looked/thought/researched them.
Yes, you might get a low initial price. But they are not local. They dont KNOW you. AND they lock you into a 5 year policy (or something liek that).
My opinion is if its too good to be true, it is.
I have Lewissy. They are a family owned company on Long Island. If I have a problem I know the staff, by name, in their office. The same uy services my pool heater every year....there is something to say about the personal service and knowing people at the company in your local area.
Just make SURE the price you pay is worth maybe, some impersonal service.
Make sure that you want to be in a LONG contarct.

Thanks for the input. I googled them and they have LOTS of complaints on the BBB too

im not going to say to use them or not use them. My DH works for them in the alarm department so we use them for that reason with that said.
For oil you dont NOT need to night a 5 year contract its a year like most other companies.
I am not sure what you mean by local but their main office is located in Hicksville.

Slomins for Heating Oil
When we locked in for the year the price was great, their servife was good and delivery schedule was good. Looking for a new place now bc the prices are high.

Re: Slomins for Heating Oil
We've been using them for 2 years now. Haven't had a problem. I've never heard of a 5-year contract for heating oil - we've always done either 1 year or 6 months.
We've had our burner serviced twice by them and both times it was the same person. I've never had a problem with their customer service or their billing department.
When I called them to lock in for this year, I was very honest and told them I had gotten other rates that were a little lower than they were quoting me and they matched the price I got elsewhere.

5 years is only for security. Not heating/oil.

I will stand corrected.
I saw a kiosk at a mall and I remember seeing this on the "fine print". My reccolection was that was heating oil. That might have been, in retrospect, part of the fine print for ALL thier services ie:alarm.

Re: Slomins for Heating Oil
We took over our previous owners' Slomin's contract, which is not a currently offered contract. When we needed a new boiler it was free under the contract. My only complaint is that they call too often to make deliveries when we do not need them. We just say no but I hate those calls.

Re: Slomins for Heating Oil
I signed up w/ Slomins 2 years ago when I passed a kiosk in the mall with an amazing price. I used them for that year and all was well. When my contract was up they said they could no longer give me the "kiosk" rate (that was amazing) so I started calling around and found LEWIS to have the best price. Now, since I am not a current Slomins oil customer, I am eligible for their "kiosk" rate again which was $3.59 when I signed up in Sept.
So, long story short, they have a great rate to suck you in but after that first year they raise the price. In all honestly I have been flopping between Somins and Lewis for the past 4-5 years.
