SM buying gift for BM...???

SM buying gift for BM...???
DS's SM bought me a gift. My ex-h and I don't exchange gifts nor do we buy something for each other from DS. We buy each other a card from DS for birthdays, mother/father's day and hanukkah/christmas.
Do I just say thank you or am I obligated to buy SM a gift?
