Smithtown Running of the Bull 5K
Is anyone doing this on Saturday? I'm trying to decide if I want to since it's near where we live.

Just curious...Can I alternate jogging with walking? Do a lot of people do that?

Hi! Absolutely you can. There are actually a lot of people who just walk or do powerwalking.

im doing the hamptons half marathon. I wish I was doing this one instead
i'll have to make note and do it next year. I love the town 5ks, they are so much fun!

I'm thinking about doing it! I've always wanted to try this. What is it like when you get there in the morning? What's the process?

I'm thinking about doing it! I've always wanted to try this. What is it like when you get there in the morning? What's the process?
You may surprise yourself! The key is to start off slow and find a comfortable pace. When you get tired, just keep pushing through and pick your knees up. However you end up running/walking it, you'll do fine.
It's probably easier to register online if you can. The morning of, you can pick up your number and they'll give instructions. I'll probably get there 45 mins before it starts only because I don't like to be rushed.

I'm sure they will have signs directing you where to park. I'm parking at my SIL's house and walking there. She lives about 1/2 mile from where it starts.

I will be there rain or shine - though I may not be wearing shorts and my mismatched socks. It's probably going to be cold!

But! But! But! How will I find you without the mismatched socks???
I'll be there as well, rain or shine.
I think the course is pretty much flat. If there are hills, they are not where near as steep as the Cow Harbor run.

I was pretty happy with my time, but they recorded my time wrong. (I can only be sure, b/c I ran with a friend and I was pushing her at the end to beat a time and made her look at the clock to come in. Her time was right, but mine wasn't and I think I may have been a tiny bit ahead of her  well it was a fun race - but not really that high tech

I totally rocked the race I had only done one previous 5k in July (35:25) and I beat my time by nearly 5 minutes at 30:29!!!
I absolutely loved running in the pouring rain - it felt great!
Erica I am sorry about your time. Same thing happened to my friend!!! He finished in 26:09 (I have him in the pic crossing the finish line with the time) but his time said 43 something
He e-mailed the organizers and they said they had a lot of problems with the chips because of the rain.

I can't believe that your friend's time was so off!!! at least mine was only 11-12 seconds...and I had my friend's time to be sure...but we had a slow age group since we were first and second...although I maintained that I crossed the finish line before her
I don't mind rain - but the pouring is a bit annoying when I'm trying to dry my palms off...I had nowhere to dry them off
I'm psyched for Oysterfest!
