Smoke detectors?

How many smoke/carbon monoxide detectors do you have in your house?

Where are they all located?

Thanks!

Re: Smoke detectors?

Is it obsessive if I want one outside of each bedroom and in each of the main rooms (LR, DR, both rooms in the basement and the attic)?

My house burned down 5 years ago and having it happen again is one of my biggest fears.

Am I being my usual neurotic self?

Maybe a little, but that is understandable. I don't know how big the house is, but that may be a bit over kill. Smoke spreads pretty quickly, so I don't think you would need that many. but if it makes you feel better, it's your house...do want you want.

Re: Smoke detectors?

Detectors are pretty cheap, and relatively easy to hide, so I don't see a problem with having extra ones. Make sure you have fire detectors and smoke detectors. The look for different things. We have ones that are powered by house current, as well as the battery-powered ones.

Re: Smoke detectors?

We have three. One at the top of the stairs by 2 bedrooms, 1 near the kitchen and one in the basement.

All are smoke/CO2 detectors in one.

Re: Smoke detectors?

We just had these installed, and in order to be in code for Suffolk county. You are suppose to have them in each of the bedrooms and in the hall outside the bedrooms. Also at the top and bottom of each stairwell.

I don't think that's neurotic at all! As a matter of fact, in NC, we're REQUIRED to have one in EACH room of the house!!! Not only that, they're all wired up in circuit...so if one gets a low battery, they ALL start to beep! So that should be a nightmare when we have a baby Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have 6 smoke detectors (we had our house built and in according to code every room must have one) 2 of them are in the same room, 15 feet from each other.

1 carbon monixde detector. That is in our bedroom

Re: Smoke detectors?

Not neurotic at all.

If you have them hardwired- when one goes off, they all go off.

I agree. The more the merrier.

We have ours hardwired and I love it!!!!! You never have to worry about a battery.

We have one on each floor but our house isn't that big.

I didn't know about your house. I am so sorry that happened to youChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

That is what we did, and it makes me feel safe since we live in a two story house.
