sneakers for boys
My little guy is starting Kindergarten this fall. What kind of sneakers are your little boys wearing?? He loves his light up shoes but thinking he might be a little too old for them. I usually buy his shoes from Stride Rite but is it time to move on?? He has Vans but what else?

My son wore and at almost 6 still wears light up stride right shoes as did every boy in his class. There was only one kid who came in lace up sneakers - they were always untied and any time I was in class the teacher was either reminding him to tie them again or doing it for him. They were a complete distraction to the point that she sent a note home to the class requesting Velcro sneakers (especially for gym). ETA - He picked a pair of Sketchers at Stride Rite this year. We will have to see how long they last. I would not get the noise making Darth Vader shoes as they looked like a huge distraction.

My son just finished K and loves light up sneakers. Still fine for a Kindergartener. Bright colors were very in this year. My son has wide feet and can only wear New Balance Wide width or Stride Rite wide width. I kind of moved on from Stride Rite to get more colorful sneakers....he started his year with Red Nikes (which he complained were too narrow a week later but still wore because he loved the red sneakers!). Also, my son will only wear laces now that he learned to tie. I started lace up sneakers in K with both my sons.

Last year (first grade) I bought Puma, Sketchers, and Geox. (all velcro) Puma is his favorite. Sketchers fell apart in a month. Geox was fine but for $70 they were the same as the $35 Puma sneakers.

Thanks so much for the replies! He doesn't know how to tie yet either, so definitely velcro. I'm happy to hear kids are still wearing light up shoes. I know that is what he'll want.

I don't think he's too big for light ups at all. DD had them last year. I love the Geox sneakers..pricey but hold up really well. Sometimes Amazon has great sales on them.

DS was in K last year, and all the boys had nikes, pumas, Adidas, Reebok converse, etc. i did not see anyone with light up sneakers (boys) or character sneakers or sketchers.
for me personally DS has always worn Nike sneakers or Reebok

I'm a mean mom, my kids have never had a pair of light up sneakers. I just don't like them. I feel like my DS would stomp his feet all day just to light them up. Lol Plus I can't lie, I dress my boys like little trendy men more so then little boys. It's just my personal preference.
That said, my boys wear Converse a lot or Vans for every day. Nikes, Pumas and Adidas for more athletic sneakers.

DS wears stride rite, tsukihoshi and geox. His current pair is geox. He had a pair of light up sneakers in pre-k and some kids had them in K as well so I think it's fine. The only thing I would say to try to avoid is laces - even if he can tie - they are a pain...I was in the classroom and playground very often and always a pain for the kids and the teachers!

Can anyone share their shoes that they bought/plan to buy for school this year? I saw one pair of pumas that I might like on zappos but that is it! I really want Velcro though!

Skechers makes a really cute shoe that half laces and then velcros on top. Gives the appearance that they are shoe lace sneakers. I really liked those for DS. Nike has some of those kinds of shoes too. If he likes light up go for that not too old

LOL I am the same too
Nikes, Jordans, & Adidas. Buy a pair of Converse and/or Vans for summer.
Ajay is going to catholic school this year so I can only buy him black or navy blue shoes.

I had velcro puma's ( light up skeleton one) for both boys. I'm thinking of buying the same ones, but different color

I ordered Adidas and Puma from 6pm. DS asked for the new sketchers hot lights so ordered those off sketchers.com, with Twinkle Toes for DD. All Velcro, the only one with lights are the hot lights. That's it for now.

same with my son.....for the most part I didn't notice anyone with character or light up sneakers in his K class.
I bought him Nikes and Pumas for this year
