She's so tiny...in a good way...Lucas came out as a toddler he was so big.

Lucas was 6 months for this past winter and he was in 6-12. This upcoming winter he will probably be finishing 18-24 and moving to 2T...see what I mean Chat Icon

I'm thinking that Sofia might be 6-12 for this winter.

That's what I would get too if I were you. Like Ang-Rich, I too birthed a 1 year old Chat Icon (at 4 mos I have put away his 3-6 months clothes and he's fully in 6/9 and 6/12) but based on normal kids, yes, I'd say she'll need the 12mos by then. And even if she doesn't, a snow suit is the one thing I'd rather have a little big.

Re: Snow suits/Coat sizes

My DD is on the smaller size too. She's just about a year, and she's probably just 20 pounds...she still fits in some 6-9 month clothes, but is in mostly 9-12 month clothes.

I would say get her a 12-18 month size, unless it looks really big. Don't forget you're putting it on over other warm clothes, so you'll need a little more room for her to be comfy.

If you think she could use it, I would. Even with my own coats I go 1 size up since you're not exactly putting shorts and a tee underneath.

Well I guess it depends on the brand. I bought Lucas' snow suit from Baby Gap and so I was thinking of that sizing when I told you 6-12 months. If you get her one there...that would be the size I recommend for Sofia.

All other brands would vary but in 6 to 8 months I don't see her getting any bigger than a size 12 months.

Re: Snow suits/Coat sizes

Sofia seems to be growing at the same rate Lily did....and at a year, Lily can finally wear mostly 12 month clothes. (so teeny tiny they are!)
I would suggest the 12 month, or 6-12 month for this winter.

Re: Snow suits/Coat sizes

I would get her one in 18 months. Kids are funny in their growth. She may just shoot up and grow, you know?

Also, you want there to be room for clothes underneath.

My DD is a December baby too.

She wore 12-18 month size (Gap) all winter. She is a long and skinny baby but even with her long torso, the coat fit all winter.

I'd say if the brand runs small, then buy the 18 month size.

More and more I feel like there is really very little difference and I am seeing the 24 months sort of fade away...

for example...

Baby Gap has 18-24 and then on to 2T (so no solo 24 months)

Carters has 24 months but more and more it's becoming difficult to find stuff in that size...onesies yes...pjs no...This past season when they went on clearance I wanted to stock up...but no 24 months and the sales associate said there were none to begin with - it was the 2T.

And for the places that do carry it I see the labels overlap for 24 months & 2T so I just get 2T...most pants have adjustable waists and the tops are a small difference.

from what I see the BTDT moms might have more experience.

2T seems to be a tad longer than 24mo.

Re: Snow suits/Coat sizes

Theresa I got Mya a 12-18 month snow suit...Shes long and skinny...fitting some 3-6 and some 6-9 months right now (strangly still has one 0-3 month onsie that fits Chat Icon )
I think that if you can fine one that is 6-12 months somewhere that may be good since she is so tiny...I wouldnt go any bigger than 12 months with her since she still fitting some 0-3 month clothes right now.
Have you found one that you like? or are you able to wait until closer to when she will need it?

Re: Snow suits/Coat sizes

My DD is on the tiny size and she wore a 6 month coat all winter with plenty of room (she is 14 months now) and had a 12 month snowsuit that was huge...they were both Rothschild, which seem to run huge...I think a lot depends upon the brand

Definately don't get the 18 months. Steven was a big boy and he was wearing a 12 month jacket this winter and 1/2 way through the winter he went to 18 months. Don't forget at around a year old, their growth slows down. They generally get longer, not wider like they do now.

If she is that small now...I think the 12 months will be perfect!

DD's b-day is 12/15 and she is a peanut also (25% for weight, 50% for height). Last winter I bought her jacket size 12months and I felt I should have bought 12-18 months instead because you put stuff underneath and by the end it was started to get too uncomfortable to zip up!

Re: Snow suits/Coat sizes

my boy was always bigger, he turned 1 in Dec. I bought him 12 mos.

The children's place snowsuit did not make it the whole season, but the gap warmest jacket definitely did. Tons of room
