Cuz I don't get it! Chat Icon I mean, a gold for the half pipe and a gold for curling just don't seem the same.

Not all sports are about athleticism. Some are just about skill. Look at golf. Heck, look at some baseball players...all they do is sit in a dugout and scratch their bellies! Chat Icon

I get what you're saying though. I started a thread about that figure skater Johnny Weir because I thought it was kinda mind-boggling that he and some 200+ pound hockey player getting his teeth knocked out are all competing for the exact same gold medal.

I go for adrenaline sports myself but think alot of skill is required for curling. It's more like chess...where you need stratgey and then like pool...where you need skill to hit what you want...i atcually think it's pretty amazing...DH is always watching it.

I wouldn't call the medals"exact" or exactly the same.

Some sports are judged by people - ice skating. And some are more objective and measured by time - such as skiing. And those both rely on different skills and types of training, as well as movements and such.

So a gold isn't a gold, to me.

But curling still seems like a strange "sport"

a golds are the same. They won the highest award there is in their 'sport' the way THAT sport is trained, played, accomplished and judged. still a gold medal b/c they were the BEST.

Those things they shove around are heavy!
And there is technique involved, like golf or bowling & strategy.

I find it boring, but I know it isn't easy.

I actually have a real question about this sport...why have separate men's and women's competitions? It's not a sport like hockey or skating or skiing where men are physiologically stronger. I think you could have men competing against women in curling with no real advantage for either side. Yes? No?

I'm not sure, but there is an curling club near me & they have mixed teams in addition to the traditional ones.

The Olympics just aren't that open minded I guess. Chat Icon
