So for those who followed my DD's story - toddler anxiety
Last summer my DD (who was 2 1/2 at the time) started stuttering and stopped talking. We had her evaluated by CPSC at the recommendation of her ped and preschool/daycare. They felt she was losing words and it was not typical toddler stuttering, perhaps neurological. After many evaluations (private and through CPSC) they said it was anxiety driven. Once she was assigned a therapist who attended school with her 2x a week she recommended we switch schools. She felt there were several children in her class that were in need of services and not getting them. These children were very aggressive and misbehaving (again not typical 3 year old's being 3 year olds.)
We took her recommendation and sent her (and her brother) to the school the therapist recommended. Although it was significantly more $$$, the school worked with us on my DD's tuition so that we can help her. It's only been about 2 months at the new school and she has made a 90% turn around. They are actually releasing her from services.
I'm sad that she was so unhappy at her school and afraid of these children and I didn't know the extent of it. The director of her old school kept assuring me that my DD is super mature and smart for her age, that these other children are being typical 3 year olds and she's having trouble identifying with them. While the therapist agrees with her being emotionally advanced, the behavior of some of those children were not typical at all. I'm glad she's doing better, but sad she went through that in the first place.

Re: So for those who followed my DD's story - toddler anxiety
First..this is a GREAT update ! So happy to read this!
Second- Was there any other things she exhibited? Was it only in school?
We are going through something similair here with noah and we are ALL at a loss as to what started this and how to solve it/help him.
He is in EI now and we work with a parent trainer and the social worker at his social group ( school) but he only goes 1x a week and has become a complete disaster.
He says he is scared of EVERYTHING, every day. he wont look at others kids, gets scared of everyone who tries to talk to him, adult ot child.
I could go on..its just overnight my child became a different child.
Same thing with emotional intelligence. The psychologist said he is very sensitive/intuitive and he tested receptively in speech at close to the 5 yr old level...yet his expressive speech is becoming worse not better. He can say just about anything, but you can barely understand him.
I'm honestly losing my mind these days taking care of the twins and a child who is scared of everything and everyone!
Anyway, this is not about me...just curious to see if our situations were similair in more ways.
Very happy to hear how well your DD is doing. That must be so much easier on you!

Wonderful news!!! I'm also curious about the question raised by the previous poster. DD is panicked when I drop her off and also of any new situation where she thinks I'm going to leave her.

I fm'd the other poster, but I wanted to answer you. I don't know your situation, but could it just be some form of separation anxiety? My DS who is almost 2 has been doing that alot lately. My DD was totally different.
My DD was more fine one day - and then started stuttering suddenly and completely withdrawn the next. She really didn't cry when I left. Part of the problem I didn't immediately assume school was the issue. She didn't want to play with her friends anymore. She wouldn't talk anymore, just point to things. For example, she used say "mommy please open the window" then it become "mom-mom-mommy th-th-th-this" as she pointed to the window. Once we got her help, she started talking again, BUT then tanturms started. When she'd come home from school she'd have violent hour long outbursts. She only did it on school days (she's part time) and she never ever ever had a tantrum like that before. They became very frequent. Once we moved her schools she had maybe one or 2 more and now they are gone.
I hope that helped???

Re: So for those who followed my DD's story - toddler anxiety
Great news!
As a therapist, I would say that it probably had a lot more to do with the school then the children in it. I hate to say it, but we can't speak openly without possible backlash. Your therapist was awesome for speaking up! And you are awesome for taking her advice. I can not tell you how many times I have clued parents into bad situations and they have not taken my advice.
My son stopped talking at daycare, the difference was that they never told me. They said he was fine all day. They did not tell until I had him evaluated for speech articulation and he was observed by an outsider. I flipped. And moved him. Within a month, he was a different child. Sad. Luckily you found out in a reasonable amount of time.
