So frustrated with Eddies leg injury experience thus far.
We had an appt with the orthopedist today at 5, but they were running close to 3 hours behind, so needless to say we couldnt stick around and wait that long , that late with a 20 month old who didnt sleep the night before bc he spent it in the ER.
Anyway, Aetna sucks, and there are like two orthopedist he can see, the other is out of Stony Brook, but there is a waiting list unless you were seen in the SBU ER, which he was not. (note to self, go right to SB next time).
He still cant stand on it AT ALL and he is beside himself bc he is bored and wants to run around so badly, plus hes in pain. My poor little guy can be spending days with his leg fractured and the complete inability to see a Dr or get an answer is beyond me.
Tomorrow we have another appt with a different orthopedist who is not on our plan, but is my Uncles neighbor, so my Uncle is pulling some strings.
I just dont understand why it has to be so hard to see a specialist and why an ER isnt equipped to diagnose a possible fracture in the bones of a toddler and can only find major fractures on a toddler xray. I just want him to be better for his sake, Im so frustrated and tired of Drs!

Ugh! That is so frustrating! And you would think that the doctor's office would've pushed little Eddie thru to see the doc b/c he is so young. I am sure all of the patients didn't wait 3 hours and some had to have rescheduled. I'm sorry that you have to watch your little boy be in pain and not get the proper care when he needs it- right now!! Many prayers and hugs to Eddie and positive vibes that the doc appt tomorrow goes well.

Re: So frustrated with Eddies leg injury experience thus far.
My DD fractured her finger and fortunately her ped. sent us to SB ER for xrays who then referred us to SB Orthopedics (Dr. Wallach) for a follow up a couple days later. I can't believe they can't just schedule an immediate appointment. How frustrating!

We went to St Catherines. We live almost dead between the two hospitals and chose St Catherines....next time, no way. They said that your standard xray will only show major fractures in toddlers and fractures in the growth plates or hairline fractures tend not to show up on standard xrays.
As for the orthopedists wait, they said that it is common bc they have their regular appts and then are constantly squeezing in emergency appts all day, which I get, but still. Had the appt been at noon, that wouldve been a different story. But at dinner/bedtime with an injured and really sleepy and soon to be hungry toddler, no way. I had figured wed go eat after and I only brought cheerios for him to snack on, that certainly wouldnt have held him over for 3 hours. Plus we are in Central Suffolk adn the ortho was all the way in East Meadow, so its like another 45 minutes of travel time.
