So I decided to change my RE at the last minute..

Let me know what you think... for those who remember, I ended up making an appt with NYU over a month ago-- I am still waiting to see the doc. I took an appt with the doc that had the earliest appt-- which is next week. The doc is a male, and I personally don't feel comfortable being examined, or talking about symptoms and what not with a man. Or rather, I would feel *more* comfortable with a woman. But, I figured-- NYU is supposed to be *the best*, so I would suck it up.

When I made the appt, they gave me info to go in and have my CD2/3 testing done when the time was right. I ended up getting my period earlier than expected, while I was on vacay-- probably because I had another chemical. I called the office and asked if I could go somewhere in LA for the testing. Apparently people travel from all over the country to go to NYU- so I figured, they would have some affiliations in LA. I left a message and still-- over a week and a half later- no one has returned my call. This really annoyed me. Also, when I made the appt initially, all I got was voicemail for the doc's asst. Every time I call, I never get a live person-- which I don't like.

Anyways-- I was talking to a friend over the weekend, and I got the name of her doc-- a woman, affiliated with Columbia. I just called and got an appt a day before the NYU appt-- I can't believe that I called a week in advance, and the other one-- I had to call over a month and a half in advance. My friend really likes the doc, and she said she always calls her personally, etc.

Do you think I made the right choice? I haven't cancelled with NYU yet-- but, the whole thing with them has rubbed me the wrong way. And now, I get to see someone at least a day earlier-- and I feel like it will just be easier in general with Columbia. BUT, NYU has this fabulous reputation-- none of which I have experienced personally, yet.

I would go to both appointments and see who you feel the most comfortable with.

IA w/ this.

Also keep in mind, once you start seeing an RE, you will usually not have any control over what doctor you see when you are monitoring. Most places rotate docs for early morning monitoring.

I used to be the same way. I would only see female doctors. But once I started with the RE, that was beyond my control during a cycle.

well, aside from the m/f issue-- I think the general "customer service" seems to be better with Columbia, thus far.

To me-- that is very important.

thanks-- good to know of another positive experience.

the doctor I was referred to is Dr. Park-- as I said, my friend is really happy with her. And she referred another friend to her like 2 months ago, and she is pg already.

Have you heard anything about Dr. Park??

I think Columbia sounds better. They sound more personable which is among the things I find important with an RE. Good luck!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yes, I have seen Dr. Park too. When you go to Columbia you have one main RE but if you start any kind of fertility treatment and have to go for morning monitoring you usually get whatever doctor is there that morning. They sort of work as a team. That means you can also get some of the male doctors. But if you are just going for a consultation you won't have to worry about that.

Thanks Karen...

I think Columbia may be better for me-- I don't know the extent of the help I will need from the RE, but from the basic level of what I have experienced thus far-- I prefer them already. Just from an accessibility standpoint.

I just wanted to put in my 2cents (again I think ). You should def. go with whom ever you feel more comfy with. IF is a horrible thing and if you cannot get through to a person that would be more upsetting upon anything else. I don't' know anything about NYU or their facility. But, I noticed the more popular (out of towners) at the clinic the harder it is to get an appointment. I tried to get an appt at Cornell with the big guy there and it was 3 months waiting. There are a ton of good RE's on LI and NYC. They all do things differently. But, you need to get over the male Dr thing and quick. This field is highly dominated by males. They are dr's and they've seen it all. I hate to say it but after a while you don't even think about it (i call it the lab rat feeling). But, I would go to both and see how you feel. Good luck. I hope whereever you go, it is a fast and successful experience.

Accessibility is my #1 priority. The fact that the main doctor is a woman is icing on the cake.

The only reason why I am not totally 100% is because of the reputation of NYU... but, I am sure they are all good docs. It's still freakin' Columbia!
