So, I FINALLY got my biopsy results.
I am so p!ssed at my doctor's office and my doctor. I have had to wait since Friday morning, til this morning to get my results-- all while knowing that the results were in, just no one was looking at them or responding to me despite numerous phone calls.
Today, I get my results-- no malignancies but it is not what was originally suspected and is a lactation/ing adenoma and the doc wants me to see a surgeon. I have NO IDEA what I need to see a surgeon for-- to get it removed (um, I am due in like 6 weeks) or if it is just for another opinion. So, after all this wait-- I only got part of the story, and again-- every time I get results for this stupid lump, it turns out to be something different.
The nurse could not provide me with any other information-- and I have no clue if this will affect my ability to breastfeed so I am upset that I still don't exactly know what I am dealing with. I have tried googling, and I cannot find any information on what having a lactating adenoma actually means-- just what it is.
I have an appt with the doc tomorrow to discuss delivery-- unless it gets canceled due to him performing a delivery so I guess I will get some answers then. But, I feel time is of the essence because I have 6 weeks left, it's the holidays next week and I don't know if I should be getting this thing removed or not.
I am just so frustrated with all of this. I am really not liking my doc despite him being recommended to me by one of my good friends.

Re: So, I FINALLY got my biopsy results.
Adenosis: refers to the enlargement of breast lobules, which contain more glands than usual. If many enlarged lobules are concentrated in one area, the resultant mass is large enough to be felt.
Not sure if this helps but this what I could find in my books. (studying for my mammography license)

Re: So, I FINALLY got my biopsy results.
Thanks-- I have been able to find descriptions of what it is-- but, nothing that says anything about how and if it affects your milk coming in, your ability to breast feed, if it goes away after pregnancy and/or if it goes away after you are done breast feeding, if it should be removed, etc.
I know adenoma basically just means any benign tumor.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this when your due date is so close.
Personally I would just follow the doctor's orders and meet with the specialist. You will be busy with your little once s/he arrives. You won't want to deal with your own doctor appointments when you will be sleep deprived and busy taking the baby to pediatrician appointments. JMO.

thanks-- I actually just left a message for the lactation consultant that I took my breast feeding class with-- so, I am hoping she calls me back.
I am also supposed to see my doctor tomorrow to discuss delivery, it's not an exam-- but I am hoping he'll be able to answer some questions. I have a feeling that he is just going to refer me to the surgeon, so it is going to be a while before I get any definitive information.

the issue is-- I don't know what the doc's orders are... I don't know why he wants me to meet with the surgeon-- if it's just for another opinion, or to actually get it removed.
I am just annoyed that they kept me waiting with the results because someone needed to review them-- and now when they finally tell me the results, it's not the full story and I am not sure what my next steps are, or how this is even supposed to effect me.

Re: So, I FINALLY got my biopsy results.
First, thank goodness it's benign. Second, I don't blame you for being so frustrated with the slow results and now anxious at the whole "not knowing" what you're dealing with. Hopefully your dr will have more insight and I'm that if not you can get in to see a specialist ASAP.

Re: So, I FINALLY got my biopsy results.
well, first of all, i'm glad you finally got AN answer after all this time. and SO glad to hear that it's not anything too serious.
i don't think this growth should affect your ability to lactate. i'm not 100% certain of that, but i don't see why it would - lactation is a hormonal event, and you have LOTS of milk glands. having one or a few of them be compromised by this growth shouldn't be a big deal.
hopefully the OB will have more answers for you tomorrow. if i were you i would give him an earful tomorrow about how awful they were around these results

I am so glad the results came back negative!
I don't know about the other thing, but it sounds like something that would be associated with pregnancy and breastfeeding, no?

Re: So, I FINALLY got my biopsy results.
I have a fibroid adenoma and my OB has me follow with a breast surgeon (I also have a mother who had Breast cancer at 31 and my grandmother had it too) I just see them and they discuss my options and have me follow up- most likely they just want you to talk to one to see what they usually do about it and they are usually the ones who can give you a better idea if it will cause problems with breast feeding. I wouldn't stress about it but I would try to go before the baby arrives so that you can make a decision as to what you need/want to do.
