So, I finally tried Jewel...

---and we will not be going back. I read and heard some bad reviews but figured I couldn't have an opinion unless I actually went there.

When we arrived, the valet guy just handed hubby a ticket--no words spoken and he had his ear buds in. We were given a nice table but I felt the service was rushed. I know that every table is different. Some people could be like, "Where the h*ll is my food?" while I like to have a slow pace and enjoy my wine between courses. We were just poured our first glass and the server took our order. I started eating a piece of bread and then BAM! The appetizer arrived. I mentioned to the server that I wanted to wait a while before our main course (it wasn't busy). She said no problem and we enjoyed the crab/avocado/ mango salad.

As we took our last bite, the buser swoops in and takes the plate. A few sips later, the dreaded food trolley is pulling out of the station with what looks like our dinner. We're given our meals and they suck. My husband was not happy with the quality of his bone in rib eye and my calamari was a little too chewy over black linguini that lacked flavor. The waitress comes by and I mention that the food came out too fast. She apologized and said something about the chef stepping away from the kitchen causing the order to get fired too quickly. We were given free dessert which was pretty good. When we left, the valet came whipping around corners in our car.

I think I prefer smaller and more intimate restaurants where the servers have less tables and the communication between staff is clearer. (Kitchen a Bistro, Mosaic, etc.)

Haven't been there yet either but I too am wary ofthese big, trendy places. I like smaller places too and will often ask for recs from locals before I go.

I felt the same. Not a fan.
Another overrated, wanna be trendy, look at me place on Long Island.
Just like Insignia. awful and overpriced.
I stick to smaller, lesser known places on Long Island and save the big nights out for NYC where they know how to do restaurants.

DH went once with his coworkers and didn't like it either... he said the food wasn't that great and the service was terrible.

I went when they first opened with friends from ?maryland. I am always saying how we have great restaurants... Well it was a disaster. I was embarrassed I too, my friends there and I will never go back.. We would have been better off at Blackstone!

It stinks becaus ei love his other restaurants...
