So I guess this HS thing is a good thing...
...I just got a call from the high schools social worker.
He knows Ariel from camp. He was the director 2 years ago..
You have know idea how awesome this is!!!!! One less hurdle. He already knows Ariel...Im so relieved...
I spoke to him a little bit and he explained to me that they had staff waiting for the "special" students their first day..showing them where to go..helping them with their lockers...etc...
She has lunch with 2 other girls that she has been paired up with..these 2 girls will be in her social skills group too. (they are in some classes together too) But lunch is really the most important...
He said it is done that way b/c noone likes to eat alone... ...that is so true. I just never thought that the school cared if she had friends or not.
So I guess this High School thing is a good thing...

That is so wonderful...I too think lunchtime is so hard, noone wants to be sitting alone..I am glad she has friends already!!

I am also glad to hear good things about the district.
What kind of classes did she end up with?
I was going to email you later!!!! 
I did put her in the Life Skills Program. She goes to Wilson Tech in the morning and then back to HS where she has Lunch, Gym which rotates with the life skills class, and then science and social studies. Next year will be the same but she'll have ELA and Math.
I was kind of where I was when it was time to take her out of inclusion and put her in self contained. As hard as it was for me to admit it there was a better place for her....
That call today from the social worker just put me on cloud 9...He knows my daughter from outside of school. Which is really how you get to see what she is all about...How awesome is that!!!????

sounds great Heather, Im so happy for you (so mommy has peace of mind at home) and for your daughter, that she has so many great people in school looking out for her in so many ways. i got choked up reading this, you sound so happy.

As a teacher, I know how hard we work to make the really special students' lives easier. And it's so great for it to be appreciated and successful.
