So, I left dh alone in the house
There was a small crack in the wall above the porch door, the walls are plaster and lathe, so this stuff happens. DH was going to "investigate" the crack, I told him to have fun and headed out for the day.
This is what I found when I got home:
For some reason the farmer who built our house 100 years ago, filled some of the walls with concrete! DH is now taking all of the plaster, lathe and concrete out and is going to insulate properly and then sheetrock. I think I'm going to be living in a house under construction for a looong time

Re: So, I left dh alone in the house
LOL, I was definately shocked! I have one of those DHs who doesn't know how to sit still, so I've gotten kinda used to coming home to "suprises" this is certainly the biggest suprise I've come home to yet!
...but it looks like this is also spurring the start of the kitchen renovations I've been looking forward too. Woohoo!!!

Well, the crack is gone, isn't it? Mission accomplished!
I guess you wouldn't have to worry about putting a fist through the wall!

Ugh, what a nightmare! We live in a Victorian house where the walls are all plaster and a previous owner was definitely concrete-happy as well. I totally feel for you! Good luck!

I agree with DH. Do it once and do it right! I don't think my DW would be too suprised.

I think it's a combination of the concrete being cheaper and more forgiving than plaster in terms of pouring and stuff. In our house, someone moved a light switch and then just threw concrete over the hole to cover up the insulated tube that the wires were in. Seriously, it looked like they just lopped handfuls of the stuff on there! It all had to be chipped away and then plastered over.
