well the fire dept left my house 2 hours ago I am so shook up
We go out for a nice nite in the city to open our front door to smell rotten eggs and the fire alarm going off. We go to basement and my boiler is burning and there is black smoke. I run upstairs grab the cats and go in DH car with them we call 911. the fire dept comes, we had a co2 level of 300 plus in the house!! They check out me and DH our BP was very high- me 160/100 him 182/100. Our co levels weere okay. Cats are good. Called animal emergency and said to watch them they should be okay if repsonding. I have a cough from the smoke, my house is ransacked from fire dept, but they did what they had to do. PETRO is here right now . I am so so so upset and happy we are alll okay. I am so scared to turn on furnace getting new one this week. It does not help that the man from Petro has an attitude- trust me I do not want him here as much as he does not want to be working overtime at 2 am. I am so scared and sad.
PS ETA PETRO man is a jerk! He said this had to be happening for many days and out fire alarms do nto work- hello0 I am PARANOID about them working I am calling PETRO when this jerk leaves he cannot even give us an answer of why this happened.
ETA I am so SCARED right now. I am so tired and so scared to go to sleep and it will happen again. I will never forget the black smoke coming out of my boiler room. It was my biggest fear comformed. I was always scared of fire. STUPID PETRO guy says it is safe, we have alot of windows open, and the heat is on.... The petro man says it is from sludge in oil tank and it needs to maybe get closed off and get new oil tank? Another thing he said maybe it is the burner itself? ***?! 
UPDATE* PETRO came we need a new oil tank and a oil burner. Let me tell u they were coming here for 4 months and NEVER once said we needed a new oil tank or burner. THEY BETTER do somethig for us. I am pretty mad and upset right now. The salesman is coming here tomorrow.

OMG I'm so glad you guys and your cats are ok! How absolutely scary! It's probably a blessing in disguise that it happened when it did. I would have been freaked out too!

Thank God everyone is okay - Sorry that you had to deal with an uncaring, obnoxious oil man - but at least everything is okay for now.
I would also call Petro today and have them send someone else out.

You are all safe which is the most important thing and no one was harmed!
I would be getting another opinion because it doesnt seem like they are giving you a straight answer. I know of a plumbing company, FM if you want their information.

so glad you're ok. It's possibly that your homeowners insurance can help with the cost of getting your home back together.
Again, so glad you are ok.
Too bad the Petro guy was an azz..jeez, whey can't they just shut up, give the right advice and go on their way. Why do they have to antagonize?

I just got off the phone with Petro, the man did not even make a report yet!!!!!!! I would think considering the emergency we had , the report would have been there! They know I am fuming and functioning on 4 hours of sleep. I have to call back in about 1/2 hour to find out what the next step is.

I'm glad that you're all okay
Do you have a contract with Petro? If not, I'd get rid of them. They are not the cheapest or the best...I've heard bad things about their customer service, etc. before. If you have a contract and are stuck with them, I would certainly send a letter about how rude they were, and how disappointed you were with their service in your time of need.
I would also think about getting a fire alarm that is hooked up to central station. If you hadn't have come home, who knows what could have happened to your home and your poor kitties If you were hooked up to central station the FD would have been their way before you.
