So it's hospice time...
We're being contacted later today by an in-home hospice care group associated with sloan kettering.
Anyone with experience want to prepare me for what this is going to be like?
Do they stay in my house?
Are they around all the time?
Do I feed them?
Ten million questions and I'm not even sure what they are.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I had to arrange to have in-home hospice for my Dad and it was the hardest thing I had to do in my life.
We had Nassau County Hospice and they were incredibly nice and compassionate. The nurse would come twice a day I think, and there was also a Social Worker available to counsel (so many emotions- anger, despair) I'm not sure if pain management is part of your story but that was something I had to administer when the nurse wasn't there. I don't think you have to feed them, you have enough going on and that is the last thing they would expect.
Again, I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this. Feel free to FM me with any questions.

Re: So it's hospice time...
Lauren, I just saw this and I am so sorry to hear this is needed.
I am sure the hospice agency will walk you through all of it and it will be nice to have their support. But I am very sorry that you even have to think about this.
You are constantly in my thoughts and prayers, please let me know if there is anything I can do. I will always make myself available for you

Lauren, Im so sorry
we had nurses come 2x a day and my grandmother had a necklace alert (like lifealert) that she could press at any time and a nurse would be dispatched if necessary we had meds in the house and all of us were taught how to adminster the morphine you really didn't even know the nurses were around, they were very nice and I don't think they even thought about us feeding them
everyone we spoke to was very kind and helpful, they will guide you through this...
again many prayers to you, Scott and Logan

Re: So it's hospice time...
My mother had it for a while last year...they came once a day for her. I think it's what you need. You don't have to feed them, you could if you want.
I don't know what to say...my heart breaks for you...I don't know how you carry on....

Re: So it's hospice time...
They're there to take care of your DH, not be a burden to you. Let them help you as much as possible and don't worry about their needs, they've been through this before - you haven't.

Re: So it's hospice time...
My sincere prayers for your family. I can't even imagine how difficult this is for you.
I have experience dealing with Beth Israel for hospice care. My MIL was in house but was later transfered to the hospital due to a complication. A social worker should contact you to go over the process.

Re: So it's hospice time...
We had hospice for my father but it was a long time ago. They came 2x a day or more if we called. They didnt stay full time or eat meals at the house. They taught my mom how to give morphine and other medications. They were great for her, I think she needed the help more than he did..
I am so sorry that its time for this

Re: So it's hospice time...
We had hospice care for my FIL. You don't need to worry about taking care of them, they are there to take care of your husband.
The company we worked with was very informative and answered our questions before we could even ask. We went through Sloan Kettering's program as well.
