so many updates from "the farm" good and bad, long but so much has happened
I haven't had the time to update you guys on so many pet related things that have been happening here. I think my last update was back in May, shortly after my beloved Daphne died
I mentioned then that Sunny & Bronzel were both sitting on fertile eggs. A few days after that update my Dad took a turn for the worse (he's been battling throat cancer for almost a year) and I had to take him into to NYC for treatment and we ended up being there for almost 2 weeks. While I was gone Sunny and Bronzel's babies hatched, 3 little fluff balls Sadly, Bronzel's one baby died the first night. Luckily DH is getting pretty good at this chicken thing & he moved Sunny & her babies into the nursery. So Sunny spent the summer raising two little cuties....she's such a natural born mother. She had a boy & a girl which I'm ashamed to say I don't have any pictures of. I believe Farrah the other halfsized hen was their biological mother & Billy the rooster was their father.
Zoey the puppy is getting better, we had her spayed and she still likes to chew things that aren't hers but overall she's doing ok. We had a few episodes where she got into the chicken run & seriously hurt & scared a few of the birds. There were moments when I didn't think Zoey was going to be able to overcome that urge. As time has gone on, with a lot of training she can now be in the yard while the chickens are roaming around & she doesn't go after them.
At the end of May we were hit with another devasting blow, our 11 year old dog Jack who is like our child-we got him one month before we got married-was diagnosed with a terrible form of cancer. Jack's cancer Jack has the kind that starts in the heart. He passed out and that's how we realized something was wrong. We went for a couple of opinions & had many tests and we were told he only had a max of 3 months to live.
On the advice of a friend we decided to take Jack to Dr Jay Wen of The Hamptons Animal Hospital, he is a holistic vet. He prescribed herbal remedies for Jack, we give him 12 capsules a day. we've gone to Dr Wen & our usual vet a few times for follow-ups and at last nights visit with Dr Wen he said " you are free & clear" he took another x-ray of Jacks heart & the tumor is smaller & there is no fluid. He claims that Jack needs to take the herbs forever & he will live the rest of his life normally!!!! this Dr is a miracle worker! Jack looks great, acts totally healthy plays with zoey constantly and has not shown any symptoms in over a month! We go back in November for a recheck
Sadly, one week ago Penny the chicken died, she was another girl from my original flock. And I was holding her when she died, i knew it was coming but i didn't think so soon. Penny is on the left
At that moment I decided to find a new home for all of my younger chickens, the two one year old half sized hens Farrah & Bronzel plus the boy & girl babies-Calypso & Star-my niece named them. On Sunday night a nice young guy that lives in our town came & took the 4 younger birds to add them to his small backyard flock. So now I just have four of the big girls from my original flock left, Sunny & Marguerite, Mimi & Genevieve. Four old ladies that will live their lives out here on the farm in peace.
So that's what has been going on around here!

I am so sorry to hear about your losses, but glad the new pup is doing well. Good luck with your "downsized" farm, I know those ladies give you lots of happiness!
