so my awful morning sickness...

.. turned out to be hyperemesis (the kate middleton sickess)... I was throwing up about 8 times an hour yesterday and could not stop dry heaving. I went to the ER and went through 3 IVs in only 45 mins! I got zofran dissolvables which seem to be working, but I may end up getting a zofran IV at home. Hopefully it subsides in the next 2 weeks!!!!

I just keep reminding myself that this will all be worth it!

Re: so my awful morning sickness...

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I had the same thing with my DS. I was in the ER at 6 weeks for severe dehydration due to hyperemesis. The Zofran really helps! I still felt queasy but it make it bearable to get through each day. And somewhere around 15 weeks or so I was able to stop taking it.

I hope the Zofran works for you and you start to feel better. I know how much it sucks (I literally remember saying that I would NEVER do it again because it was so bad) but it will be SO worth it.

I can sympathize. Mine was so bad I had bleeding episodes from the force of the vomiting. It was terrifying. I was sick until the end, though it did lessen. I look zofran every day from 7 weeks to the day I delivered, it was a lifesaver. It sucks but hang in there.

I always thought Kate had MY sickness! I am lurking (too old to be on here but I like to see who's pregnant lately!!) I had hyperemesis (on my honeymoon - thank you very much!) and lived on Zofran my entire pregnancy. I lost 15 lbs and it was the worst thing ever - you'll get through this!!!

That is unfortunately a pregnancy thing but of course the Zofran makes it worse. Definitely mention it to your doctor.

Lurking too

I'm sorry you're going through this!

I have a question though - what do people do about work when they suffer from this ?

I kept running out of my classroom to get sick and had to tell my principal early because of it. Once I got the zofran, I felt just fine and was able to make it through the day with just a dull nausea feeling

Threw up at work on the train in my car. Where ever I was. I traveled with bags so I was always prepared and was even able to puke and drive a stick shift!!!

I had it for 35 weeks. Please PM me with any questions. I belong to the HER group on both fb and baby center. Get meds in your system now if you haven't already. Besides Zofran there are other meds and there is a whole regimen that women have found have helped.

Be careful with Reglan, monitor yourself. It was one of my combo drugs but many women don't have a good reaction to it.

Adding unisom and b6 to your daily is helpful too.

Is your doctor knowledgeable about HG?

Many leave their jobs and go out on disability for the remainder of their pregnancy. I used up every vacation day and was pretty useless when I was in the office. I would go in the bathroom and just lay on the floor wrapped around the toilet as I threw up anywhere from 5 to 9x a day.

Halfway through my pregnancy it was decided commuting wasn't an option any longer as I was on home iv's every couple of weeks and had to have my home nurse come in.

I was on a 24hr pump with a needle in my stomach for 4 months that gave an injection of anti nausea meds.

I lost 26 pounds. It was a nightmare. I worked up till the day I gave birth but it was from home.

Awwww I feel for you! I was so sick until 12 weeks, then I was put on Zofran and it allowed me to keep food down. I was able to stop the Zofran around 20 weeks.

My OB put me on bed rest so I was home vomiting all day. I would not be comfortable getting sick at work in a shared bathroom. Ask your OB to stay home. I don't know how people can stay at work all day being that sick.
