So my neighbor just gave birth to her 2nd DC and it got me thinking...
I was wondering if the second time around is as exciting as the first time was... like in the delivery room and such... it was such excitement the first time... everyone came to the hospital as soon as we called to say I was having contractions... we were beyond exstatic... just wondering if the second/third/forth etc is the same or does it lack that first time excitement? I can't imagine the birth of another child being any less special.. but just wondering what its really like...

I would say it is just as exciting for us. Everyone was extremely excited for DD, like they were for DS, and we had just as many visitors in the hospital both times. You know what to expect with #2, so it's not as "new" as with #1, so maybe that is how it is different. But I felt just as excited to meet my little girl as I was to meet my baby boy.

Re: So my neighbor just gave birth to her 2nd DC and it got me thinking...
I would have to say that the best and most exciting time of my life was my first pregnancy--there's nothing like it!
That said, I personally, was just as excited for the 2nd in most ways. The pregnancy is different since you can't be your own sole focus but I was absolutely driven to the brink of insanity and excitement since I didn't know what the gender was (either time, but for some reason I was more excited the 2nd time). I think everyone else was pretty excited too.
However, I had a scheduled c-section with #2, and I found that less exciting since I didn't have that "Honey...I think it's time" moment. Also, I did have less visitors...but maybe since I wasn't there on a weekend day the 2nd time like I was the first.
I would say, all in all, it was *different* for sure, but not less exciting.

Personally I enjoyed the second delivery experience so much more -- I was so much more relaxed (and it was so much easier physically because I was pre-stretched out!)

I think they were equally enjoyable for me ... The second time around, we requested all visitors to come the first night, and the second night we had none andjust relaxed and me and DH watched TV and caught up while DD was in the nursery. He snuck me in food too, so I was able to enjoy that.

The last was definitely the most exciting...all the older siblings were not-so-patiently awaiting his arrival. I was able to be in a birthing room and got to hold him right away....just everything was better.

I had my 3rd in August and I have to say that my 2nd and 3rd were just as exciting as my 1st.

I feel it will be for us since were not finding out the sex again, to hear the dr say what it is will be VERY exciting for us, and then DH telling our family will make it exciting for everyone else!!
