So my parents want to take my son to Disney
and I'm not too happy about it. I mean, it's great that they want to do so much with him and I totally appreciate it. I just wanted to have that memory with my own son. I wanted to be the one to take him with my dh. They know that we're TTC in January and they were planning on taking him when I'm ginormously pregnant. I don't know...am I being ridiculous?

Nope I would feel the same way. Maybe they can postpone and you can plan a family trip together?

Re: So my parents want to take my son to Disney
Very nice of them but I would def want to be there with him. My family wants to go next October and if all goes well I will also be PG then. I am planning on going anyway but (as I said if all goes according to plan) I will not be that far along in the PG.

I agree with you even though that is a really nice thing to do. I know my sister has been annoyed that her MIL has taken her son to see Santa w/o her.

Re: So my parents want to take my son to Disney
My mom wants to do the same thing and I feel the same way as you. I think that's normal. I would say that they either have to plan for before you are too far along to fly/drive/participate or wait until you can go too.
I don't think it would be the greatest thing for Jared to go without you either, especially knowing that there's another baby on the way.

Re: So my parents want to take my son to Disney
I know exactly how you feel. DH took Joseph with his parents. It killed me for a little while.
Later I justified it as I can experience it the first time as a family and it will be just as special.
If you're not comfortable, tell them they can take him another time.

I completely understand - I would not be okay with my parents OR in-laws taking my kids without me. I DEF. want to be part of that very first Disney experience!!!

My parents wanted to take Julia pumpkin picking last weekend since I wasn't feeling to good, and I said no cause I wanted to be there also. So I would never let anyone take her to florida with out me.....
I would just tell them that you would like to be there with Jared also for his first Disney trip, I'm sure they will understand, your parents are so sweet Stef!

Re: So my parents want to take my son to Disney
Are they able to plan the trip earlier in your pregnancy?
My parents were taking us to Disney in February, but we cancelled since I am pregnant and will be 6 months at the time. I want to be able to run around with DS and go on rides, so we will go next year...
Jared is lucky to have such great granparents!!!!!!!!!

I would feel the same way and I also have personal issues with DC flying without me. It is an ongoing battle with DH about letting DS going overseas to europe with my in-laws when he get's older.

I am having a similar issue.....

Re: So my parents want to take my son to Disney
Thanks ladies. I would go, but we don't have $$$ in our budget for a Disney vacation right now. If they want to pay for us, well that's a different story... but I'm not the type of person to not pay my own way.

Re: So my parents want to take my son to Disney
Although grandparents mean well and adore our children, i would DEF not miss the first Disney trip. We've been there twice already, and I wouldnt trade it for the world.
Did you remind them how long a long day can be with a toddler ?
Maybe you can go for part of the vacation and leave him with them to enjoy the rest of the time there ?
ETA: WE did this, the grandmas wanted to be part of the experience, so while we were down there for 2 weeks, they flew down, for 4-5 days. It was special memories for them, while we also had our private family time too.

Re: So my parents want to take my son to Disney
I agree with you on both points...it's really very nice that they want to take him but I think that the first trip should definitely be with mom and dad. It's a big trip and a big deal - something that will be remembered and you should be the one to take him. JMO.

Re: So my parents want to take my son to Disney
Speaking from the other side, I would KILL to have someone so close who cares that much about bonding with Alex, that they would take her on such a fantastic trip, while giving me a little break. I can see why you would be upset - I would feel a little pang of jealousy too. But, at the same time, it's also tremendous to have such an incredible memory with his grandparents, who won't be around forever, you know? He'll have SOOO SOOO SOOO many other wonderful memories with mommy and daddy...

Re: So my parents want to take my son to Disney
My grandparents took my by myself when I was 5. My brother was 1 and I guess my mom and dad needed a break! I still remember it to this day.
I went with my folks when I was 8 and my brother was 4 and it was a different experience because I was able to go on more rides, see more stuff, etc.
Now that my grandparents are deceased, I remember that trip whenever I think about them. I don't remember going on a lot of rides and stuff, I remember my grandpa putting me on his shoulders to look for the car in the parking lot, my grandma buying my Minnie mouse ears and how she let me go to sleep with them on, how my grandfather let me have chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast at the hotel. I am soooooo thankful to my parents that they let my grandparents take me. They also took my brother alone when he was 5 too.
I don't think you are being ridiculous. However, I would see how you feel when you are preggo because you might want some alone time with DH before baby #2 comes.
Just offering another side to this. HTH

I agree, I have amazing people in Bella's life...but no one that really could offer this experience with her. At 3, he will have an amazing time that your parents will cherish...but at 5 or 6, they will be great family memories with you, DH, and another little one.

I agree with the girls who looked at it from the other side of the situation. It would be a nice thing for them to treasure.
I just wanted to be there...
