So Robbie Is Suspended From School For The Day..
..And I'm really.. TORN about it.
You see.. on one hand I do understand the school's perspective - and I completely acknowledge and am horrified by my kid's actions.
On the other hand I am really po'd for my kid - because while what he did was wrong, they are blowing it way out of the context when framed around the fact that this is a CHILD who is just shy of 9 years old. And I just feel like they have this overly bureaucratic dogma that isn't put out there to advocate for my kid or anyone's kids.. but is really an agenda to cover their own azzes.
I'm going to have to schedule a meeting with them and I just think it's going to be very hard for me to not come off like an overly defensive 'mom'.
I'm sorry for being vague.. I just am not sure I'm willing to share the whole story just now for this vent.

My sister was suspended as a Senior b/c she published an article in the school newspaper (she was the editor in chief) that was an interview with a teacher about the teacher's contract disputes.
It got her into college So sometimes suspension can be good

I can't imagine how hard this is. I know the schools are just overly cautious these days to cover their own butts, and sometimes the students suffer. I am sorry, I really hope that you are able to have a productive meeting with the administration.

Just from reading your previous posts I know you have a great way with words and I am sure once this settles a bit you will be able to come up with away to approach it with administration. And he is your child, I think its only natural to want to defend him.

Definitely schedule a meeting and have a talk with them. Whether or not you'll come across as a defensive mom, don't worry about it. They need to know how parents feel about certain school "politics".

I'm a former guidance counselor. I always expected parents to defend their kid, regardless of the circumstances, it's what makes you a good parent. The difference between being overly defensive and a good advocate for your son, IMO, is whether you are willing to listen to their side and are reasonable.
Hope it all works out for the best.

Unfortunately, the sad truth is that schools HAVE to cover their a**es these days--there have been so many lawsuits that it's become the norm. Cover your a** first, advocate for the child second.
Not saying I agree with it, but as a teacher, it's something that I have to deal with as well. It's sad.
I hope that there is a fair resolution, no matter what happened.

I'm sorry that this happened. I agree with the others that said you have a way with words and I have no doubt that you will get your point of view across while not completely excusing his behavior.
Unfortunately, administrators (not all but most i've worked with) do CYA before all else and their egos probably cannot handle reversing any kind of ruling.....just saying this as to not go in there expecting them to drop the suspension.
