So this woman at work hurt my feelings today...
She is 65 [so in reality, she is just behind the times] and actually once yelled at me for eating too much [even though my DR. said eat MORE and told me that 30 pounds was way too much to gain in 9 months]. So really I should know to just ignore her every word...
Last week she tells me that I need some longer tops [which is fine...that shirt looked short that day], I had on pants that sit below my belly and have a zipper. So I just laughed and said "sure."
Today, she walks up to me and says:
You really have to go buy some maternity shirts and wear them because your shirt is too tight and people are going to start saying things to you about it.
I informed her that I was wearing a maternity shirt and pants.
She didn't believe me. I wanted to pull that lilac gap tag out and cram it in her eye. I ran off crying, yes crying. First I was just going to hide in the bathroom...but I thought, wait, if I do that, she can say I am a baby and blah, blah, blah...so I go to HR and complained. He informed me that A-my clothes are fine, B-they are supposed to get tighter [and I checked, it is not too tight, you can't even see my bra line] and C-she had no right/place to say those things to me.
I felt better, but she still hurt my feelings. I told the HR person, if the company wants to give me $500 I'll go buy a whole new larger wardrobe but until then, I gotta wear what I've got/can afford! I also told him that I have a couple shirts that are much larger but I purposely do not wear them to work because they make me look frumpy and messy [and they do]. I wore one to work and felt like I was in PJs the whole day.
I know she's from an era where you hid being pregnant for some archaic wacked out reason, but I'm not ashamed to be all round in the middle! She actually bragged in front of me to another co-worker one day about how much weight she put on with her last child...20 pounds. She seriously thought that was excessive!
People just s uck sometimes. Mostly I'd avoided stupid people and stupid comments in this pregnancy...but today, I guess I'd had enough of her. I feel better getting that out now.

Re: So this woman at work hurt my feelings today...
If it's any consolation my 70 year old aunt had the same things to say to me, over the phone before she even saw me
Back in their day you couldn't even say the word "pregnant", public school teachers had to quit before they were even showing and all maternity dresses/shirts had to look like they were made by a tentmaker.
I'm sure you looked great!

If you work for a large company i would go straight to HR and tell them that that woman is overstepping her boundaries and distracting you from your office duties.
No matter how old she is, she is very annoying and you are not her relative to have to put up with it!

Sweet pea, I am sure you look beautiful. And if HR doesn't have a problem with your clothes, then anyone else who does can lump it.
She is not your mother, your husband or your best friend, and her comments are inappropriate and overstep very personal boundaries. I would very politely and professionally tell her to please keep all comments relating to your pregnancy and your dressing habits to herself. She will probably be like "Hmph! Well I never!" (hey, that's a saying from her time, right? ), but you will have spoken up for yourself and she will know you mean business.

OMG - whatever - you are so tiny - you are just belly and thats it - she has NO right to be commenting on any woman's body - plain and simple - what if you were just overweight? That would be harassment....

Ehhh- she's just jealous that you are young and just starting the biggest adventure in life- while she's only a few steps away from a dirt nap with saggy tlts.....
That's it! - when she's on one of her tirades, just imagine her standing there topless with her old, saggy boobs swaying down around her knees.....

I am so sorry! People can be so unbelievably rude. Do not feel self-conscious b/c of her. Your clothes are supposed to get tighter as you get bigger, mine did. and I understand how you feel the larger sizes make you look frumpy and not put together, I feel the same way. Next time she says something to you I would just say, "Unless you have something nice to say don't say anything at all." You should definetely put her in her place.

I'm so sorry she upset you to the point of tears!!!
If there's one thing I've learned, is that everyone has an opinioin, esp. old ladies! She was way out of line and you know that!!! I'm sure you look gorgeous!!
someone said it best- that's a total jealous comment! If anything, secretly laugh at her! -Glad you went to HR!!!
