So, today was my first real day of looking at homes and...
i'm already frustrated.
I saw a house that looked amazing on MLS pictures but was absolute sh!t!
I saw house that was pretty nice, but in an uncozy neighborhood.
one man, who was the homeowner, wouldn't leave us alone and wouldn't shut up. Listen guy, I don't care where you are moving to or hearing all about your 9 cats you have in your home, go away and let me look!
one house had been frebreez'd so much I left with a headache
I saw a house that looked like it was in a nice country setting but was definately not
and one that was right next to a gargage shop.
(not that any of those things are bad, but just not what i espected)
....back to the drawing board!!

I hate to say this but your experience is more the norm than the exception. I got so sick of the pictures not looking like what is there...the pics looked like they were taken 10 years ago when the house was taken care of.
Google map the house if you see if on MLS and want to make sure its not next to commercial area or other things you may not want to be right next to...if you do the street view you can get a pretty good idea of the surrounding area.
GL......its a long process but worth it in the end.

well first of all good luck to you in your search.
don't get discouraged. it took us 2 years to find our home. i'm glad we were picky & didn't settle because we love our new home
i'm not sure if you are dealing with RE agent. maybe you should if you are serious. we were upfront & honest about we were looking for & how much we were willing to spend. she knew not to waste our time with garbage
i would look at ads & go to open houses in areas that you are interested in.
if you have any questions feel free to send me an FM. we were on both ends the buying & selling.
Good Luck

I remember those headaches!!
When you find your home, you will sit back and think about how funny some of these experiences really are! We bought our house 7 months ago and DH and I still laugh over some of the horrible experiences we had with some of the houses we saw.
Hang in there! You will find your home soon!

Perseverance is the key! When I was looking for my home I was 7 months pg, had a 6 y/o ds a worthless Dh( ) and every house I came out of I felt the need to scrub myself!
I just kept with the mindset that my house was out there and I would find it!
We moved in when my 1st DD was 10 days old! Good Luck. You home is just waiting for you to find it!

Suffolk..specifically: port jeff, setauket, center moriches, ridge, stony brook, sayville, sound beach, bohemia.... i have a long list, but it seems to be the same houses on MLS over & over again, so my target houses are small group.

You can go to bing or google earth and look at areial shots to get an idea of location (if busy street or near something undesirable) before going there

I feel your pain. We looked at about 75 houses before we found the house we bought. But we bought the ugly house on the block and fixed it up. DIY isn't for everyone. You will find what you want in time. Don't rush the process. Try not to stress. GL!
