So we decided to have a small 1st Birthday Party...
After pricing everything out and getting together a guest list we decided to keep it small.
After the big Christening it is just too much.
I feel so bad though. I feel like we are depriving him.
Is anyone else keeping or kept it small?

We are having it small. It is only going to be the immediate family out for dinner.

Sarah's was small as will Andy's. About 20 people at our house. We have too many other things to spend the money on.

Is his birthday during the week? Andrew's birthday is on a Friday and I am not sure if we should do it that night.

Re: So we decided to have a small 1st Birthday Party...
My family is kinda big, so even with just immediate family her party will be 30-40 people.
We did a small christening party for her, but we are prob going to go a little bit more the 1st birthday, but we really can't go crazy. It will be in a backyard.
I will have another child to christen this year, and i am not working this time around.
Don't worry about depriving him, save $$$ for when he can really appreciate and participate in his party fun

Re: So we decided to have a small 1st Birthday Party...
We kept it really small. We invited family and our closest friends over tor pizza and cake. It was cool bc we just hung out, no pressure.
IMO, I think it's a waste to spend so much money on 1st birthdays. The kid isn't even going to remember it. I'd rather save the big all out parties when he can remember them or really just enjoy it.

His birthday actually falls out on a Sat so we will probably go for lunch (not dinner). We made a list and we are going to be about 27 people.

This is exactly what we did...and we had fun. I will have a big 2nd birthday and she'll actually know what's going on. She had NO idea this year...

Keeping it small here too. Baptism party is one thing but to do it all over again big for a first birthday is over the top to me.

I feel so much better now!
I am actually pretty excited about it the more I thinkk about it. I just found and ordered the pary supplies!! Which I couldn't have had if we had something big.
Yah!! I am going to have that #1 Hero too. I know someone on here had it and I am stealing the idea (thank you) I found a bagel place that can do it

Re: So we decided to have a small 1st Birthday Party...
DS had a small 1st birthday as well. I actually read that it can be too overwhelming to have a big party, so that made me feel better about the decision. I don't regret it.

Re: So we decided to have a small 1st Birthday Party...
His B'Day is in February and we are having close family and friends to our home. We are inviting 40 (including kids) and I do not feel bad at all. He honestly does not know and we can't do it. I would rather do something big for him when he's five and in school (elementary). Don't feel bad - you can only do what you can do. As long as you give him kisses and hugs (and a couple of presents and cake) he'll have the perfect day and so will you.
My friend's son slept right through his too.
