So what is the blood test at 16 weeks?
I had the NT screen at 12 weeks , they took blood (not from my finger) and said I'll need part 2 blood test at 16 weeks. I'm going to see my OB at 15 w 4 days so I asked if I can do the blood that day so I don't have to drive out to LI again, but they said no, it has to be exactly at 16 weeks.
I really don't remember going for this twice with my first pregnancy, is this new or did they always do it this way?

Its for Spina Bifada an Neural Tubal Defects. I also haf a sonogram (and they were able to tell us the sex)
I did not have it with DS#1 my doc said it was new since I had him in 2008

thanks, yes AFP is what I'm getting done and I just called them and found out I will def have a sono that day too. Hoping they'll tell us the sex that day  so many new tests since I was pregnant with my DD in 2006-07 . Drives me nuts , lol.

hmm strange, i didn't get a 16 week sono or blood test, all I had was my 12 week NT scan (with finger prick blood test) and going for my 20 week next week... I would have loved a 16 week to let me know the sex sooner though!

i didnt get a 16w sono either.
didnt have to do the blood work since it was all done at my re. just the 12w finger prick blood test

hmm, intesting, I actually asked them today when I called if I'm getting this test bc I'm high risk du to a previous loss, but they said no, all their patients get the part 2 of the blood test that's done at NT screen , this one is called AFP blood test and everyone gets a sonogram at 16 weeks.
Then I'm going for the 20 weeks sono at the hospital.

I def didn't have it with my DD , they also took blod from my finger with DD , with this one I thought they were going to do a finger prick again, but they took from the vein.

I didnt go for the 16w sono but i did just have the blood test done last week and i am going for the 20 week sono in about 3.5 weeks..
I am hoping DH changes his mind about wanting to know the sex by then... i am DYING to find out

so funny, I don't want to know, I really don't care if it's a boy or a girl to be honest, but DH insisted , he says even though he doesn't care what it is he "needs to know" and we need to "prepare" lol, so I agreed.
I even told him why don't you find out, but don't tell me, but that could never happen, there is no way he could keep a secret like that from me

I didn't have blood drawn at my recent sono. I had a sono done last week at 17 weeks and it was part 1 of Level II. I have another one scheduled in 3 weeks. No more bloodwork. I think all offices have their own screening procedures and I always think that being overly cautious is better than being surprised later on.

My blood work was part 2 of the blood work from when I had the NT scan. It's to verify the rsults from the first blood work.

The AFP (also called the quad screen or intesgrated test) is a screening test for Down Syndrome, Trisomy 18 and neural tube defects like spina bifida. I don't know when it started being offered, but I also had this test with my first pregnancy in 2008. I just have blood work done at the lab not a sono. The test is typically done between 16 and 18 weeks, but this time I was told by a genetic counselor that it doesn't make a difference if it's done at 15 weeks. My doctor was fine with that and I had mine done a little before 16 weeks.

It has to be new, bc i didnt have to do this with my first either. I went yesterday for my NT scan and when she was telling me i had to come back at 16 weeks, I was throw off too.
