Re: So who is going to Top Point tomorrow? Updated with my review
I used Tracy from Beth's recommendation.
I was nervous about parking too, I parked where Barbara told me- in the pay lot right next to the sheraton lot. i had to loop around the one way streets 2x to find it. It is pretty close to the expressway and I didn't really have any trouble finding it.
More tips from Barbara: Bring food, water, and a book to read. I probably wouldn't have thought of the food and water but needed it and would have been stuck.
I can;t answer the highlights questions because I don;t have any.

If the texture of your hair is healthy now you should not have any problems with breakage
I appreciate you responding - I get a decent amount of breakage from the top and lose a LOT of hair when I wash and blowdry - I used to have super thick hair for years and wish this was around YEARS ago - but my hair has thinned due to hormone issues... i just don't want to be bald after it!

I'm such a dork - I'm nervous about driving there and the whole parking situation - I wish there was someone to go with next week!
Can you understand them at all? Also, I posted this the other day - maybe someone who sees this now can respond - I'm a little nervous because my hair has gotten a lot thinner over the years and I'm not sure if it will break my hair or make it look horrible... It is fairly easy to blowdry my hair in the fall and winter - but much more of a struggle when the weather gets warmer and I don't want to deal with that anymore...
About thin hair- my hair is really thick and now looks really thin because it is so flat.

You also have to consider that less blow drying and styling after the JHS might help reduce the breakage... But I think if the follicles are alreagy damaged, the chemicals will make it worse.

I'm so disappointed - I want to do this so bad but I'm scared it will kill my hair...I wonder if there's some type of relaxer I can get to get rid of frizz...
I appreciate your honest opinions!

Not sure about thin hair but can tell you that after you've done it, you won't need to blowdry your hair at all. I know that saved me a lot of time & damage that I would have inflicted to my hair (since I've never been good at doing my hair I often overdry it).
For the highlights, I know you have to wait for a period of time before you go. when you call up ask them how long. I felt like my hair was too dry after the highlights. I think not drying it all summer helped it.
They do really look at your hair & discuss what needs to be done. It's not a place that just puts the same chemical on your hair as everyone else. If they can't do it or thought it would damage it further, I think they would tell you.

I was looking in to rusk anticurl- maybe that would be better for you, I think it doesn't straighten it all the way, just calms down the frizzies I was told.

First off --- where exactly in queens is it?
How long after getting highlights do you have to wait before doing it?
How long after doing it do you have to wait before having highlights done again?
How long does it last before you have to have it re/done or touched up?
Its in flushing, not far from Shea stadium. We were lucky enough to leave yesterday right as the mets game got out
You have to wait 3 weeks after getting highlights to get JHS and you cant get highlights after JHS for another 3 weeks. You cant wash your hair for 2 days after getting it done and no pulling it back in a ponytail or putting behind your ears for a week.
She told me yesterday that you can wait about 8 months before getting it re-done.
Based on previous posts, tracey is the best one to go to.
The # to top point is 718-461-3378 and the addr. is 37-05 prince st., flushing.

You could also take the LIRR to the Flushing station and walk a few blocks.
I used to go to TP, but now go to a place in Bayside. Better parking and a bit cheaper too.

I parked next to the garage right next to the Sheraton. The Sheraton is on the street just before the municipal lot. You can't make the right because it's one way, so you need to work your way around.

I sooooooooo want to go but I'm still BFing. So I think I'm sitting it out another year.
I originally typed BDing
hahah!!
after a long long long day, i am back and love the way it came out.
It looked great!
I like mine too, although it is a little flat so I am looking forward to washing it and seeing how it will be.
I called friday and got an appt for Saturday.
So here is my review in case anyone cares I will post it here to spare everyone another JHS post. I showed up at 10:40 for my 10 am appt and was told she had no room and to come back in an hour (totally my fault for being late). I came back at 11:20ish and was taken right away. I have to say the whole process took 6 hours total and was awful! Not Top Points fault, they were great but I have trouble doing anything for 6 hours, especially in one chair.
I got my hair washed, then they put the smelly stuff in and it sat for about 40 minutes- they came back and put in more smelly stuff and sat for another 40 minutes or so, she kept checking my hair and saying it wasn't ready yet. They washed out the smelly stuff, and dried my hair. Then they flat ironed it (2 people) for almost 2 HOURS. This was the worst part for me for some reason. After the flat iron the put in more goop- let it sit for about 15 min, then washed it out and blew it dry, then ironed it some more.
My hair is not long but very thick- they charged me $230.
All in all it was torture, but Top Point was great. They were working very hard to make sure it came out well. I had Tracy working on it with another girl.
2 hours they did that for???
It was nice meeting you today - I hope you love the way your hair came out!!!! I LOVE straight hair!!!!

When you call to make an appt - do you have to speak to the girl you want specifically? I just called and they told me to call back tomorrow cause Tracey wasn't in...

Re: So who is going to Top Point tomorrow? Updated with my review
I've been doing JHS for over 3 years and I love it! I've only gone to a place called Hair Village in Quens but the line is always out the door with tons of girls from all over. It takes a hell of a long time but it's worth it for not having to blow dry your hair for months.
I do think it's damaging to your hair because of all teh chemicals, but in my case, I thnk it's less damaging since I was blowdrying and then flat ironing my hair every other day- now that was damaging!
Also, I have very thick hair and it looks flat and thin when I first get it done. For me, that's fine because my hair is so big. But if you have fine or thinner hair, I wouldn't get it done. And I agree that it does look better after a month or two.

Re: So who is going to Top Point tomorrow? Updated with my review
Hi, Just back from Top Point. Thank you to those who responded about parking. I ended up just parking in the metered lot again though. This was the second time I went (last july was the first time). Tracey did my hair the first time but doesn't work Mondays so I had Maggie ( I think was her name). It went faster than last year- my hair is shorter this time, the salon seemed a little quieter and maybe because it was the second time (I don't know!). I'm still happy about the way my hair came out. I'll stop rambling but if anyone has questions I'd be happy to try to help. Michelle
