Soccer for our kiddos
Anyone know where I can take DS (3.5 years old/4 in Jan) for soccer lessons? For Christmas, rather than a bunch of toys I'd LOVE to give him lessons to soccer. Has anyone done this or anyone currently in a program they can recommend?
TIA

Re: Soccer for our kiddos
We had our son (2 1/2) in Soccer Tots in Huntington and it did not go very well. It was way to organized for him and I felt the instructors did not understand how to work with him. I would see if you can get in for a session to see how your child handles it. Just my opinon

East Meadow Soccer Club has a special needs program. I bet other soccer clubs do too, but I do not know the age requirements

We did Soccer Tots in Westbury, not this past summer but the year before.....it also did not go well. Maybe ds was too young (turning 3 in Sept) but I also felt the coach did not "get him". It was hard to see all the other kids following directions and playing while my son was running in the opposite direction doing his own thing. Also, practice was held in a basement gym with HARD floors. I spent the entire time paranoid that he was going to crack his head open and it was stifling in there.
This was however, prior to ds being in school. He's definitely better about following directions now, but still not great. Maybe he would've been better this summer but we decided to give it another year. I have a feeling he's going to be better with an individual sport like karate as opposed to a team sport.
I agree with the AP who said to have him try it for a class and see how he does

Re: Soccer for our kiddos
there is a place in Mastic, I will find the website. I am thinking of putting Christopher in, because everytime we go to Matthew's soccer games, Christopher grabs the ball and kicks it in the goal during the games
It is a soccer league, and they do other sports for special needs kids.

Thanks Ladies. I'd love to sign him up for Soccer Tots, but, Im afraid he'd just be running all around the room.
He does follow directions, but, sometimes "ventures off".
I'll look for something.

Re: Soccer for our kiddos
you should look into super soccer stars. it is specifically designed for kids with special needs. it is not competitive at all and in fact, is very structured and lots of fun! there are several places on li that have it, sid jacobsen jcc and mid island y jcc but if those places are too fa rif you have a location and kids who would sign up i bet they would create a program for you. if you need more info, let me know as i know them very well.

I'll look for something. I find soccer tots very unorganized. I have a whole list of special needs programs at home - I will look when I get back from the weekend!

this takes you directly to the organization's page http://www.kidsplusinc.com/
Looks like they have to be 4 for the soccer program, but I would call and see if they will make an exception
