social security # for baby
Hey ladies, I am just starting to fill out my advance registration for Winthrop and it asks if we want the hospital to apply for the babys ss #...is this the stardard way most ppl do it..is there fee..and why wouldn't one want the hospital to do it...Thanks for your advice!!

The hospitals usually have someone come to you to help you out with that. Then you get the card with a number a few weeks later. Why anyone wouldn't do it, I dont know.

We filled out paper work in the hospital and returned it to them. We had his SS card within a week and a half.

with my DS the hospital didnt do this but when I had my DD last year they asked us this and ofcourse we did.It was soo much easier then having to go down there in person which we did with DS.

DEFINITELY do it thru the hospital!! One of my coworkers didn't [not sure why] and it was an absolute nightmare for him to get his DDs SS# on his own. It's a identity issue and he ended up going to the SS office 3 times before he had all of the right documents for his 4 month old!! What a PITA!!
