Social Skills Group
I would like DS to partcipate in a Social Skills or Play group. He has PDD NOS. This would supplement the services the school district offered.
The problem is that I need something that takes place in the evening or on a weekend. I work FT, and we already go for OT services at Kidz Therapy a few days a week, which meant a lot of schedule juggling at work. Nothing offered there fits the schedule we have.
Any suggestions for possibilities? Thanks in advance!

Re: Social Skills Group
I'm doing this over the summer as well. We were referred to Kids Esteem in West Babylon. They have classes specifically for PDD-NOS kids (which my DD is). I haven't heard much feedback about them but we're planning on going to check it out soon though.

Re: Social Skills Group
I don't know where you're located, but my brother attended his Social Skills group at the Cody Center in the Stony Brook/Port Jeff area. My mother used to take him in the late afternoon/early evening. They were very happy there.
Good luck with your search!

Re: Social Skills Group
sid jacobsen jcc in roslyn has programs for that age range as well as the mid-island y jcc in plainview. i can tell you from personal experience (cough, cough i am the director of special needs programs at mid-island y jcc) that the mid island program is great!
i don't know much about kid esteem or the cody center's programs.
variety child learning center may have some social skills groups. they are in syosset.
if you want more info on my program, please feel free to fm me. all of the jcc's from queens to suffolk have a department for special needs with quality programs.
and before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, we are a vendor on this site!

Re: Social Skills Group
Thanks for the suggestions! I am looking into the JCC and Variety programs--either option may work.
