Social Work job
I was recently working for an agency that had me based in a high school. Unfortunately, that school's budget wasn't high enough to keep the position, and I was cut in June. I have been looking every day since then and find jobs that either want 10 years of experience or require only a high school diploma. I have my license and graduated in 2008. I'm not stuck on working in a school, but love working with adolescents. I'm supposed to be starting per diem soon, and the job has the potential to become full time, but in case it doesn't work out, I want to have a back up plan. If anyone knows of anything, please let me know. Thank you so much :)

Re: Social Work job
Have you tried Mercy First?
I got a case from that agency (adult parent) that utimately went in because the teenage daughter was not attending school.
They seem like they are pretty good and I've seen job ads for them before.
I've also heard other people mention that agency out in Dix Hills-----it does residential treatment with teens---name escapes me at the moment but I *think* it may be SCO Services or something like that.
Would you consider working in the city? I see job ads advertised more often for Brooklyn/Bronx/Queens/Manhattan on sites like socialservice.com.
If you would be interested in working with the disabled or mentally ill, there seem to be a lot more open positions in those areas as well.
If I ever decide to leave my current agency (I work with disabled adults) I might check out YAI. I work closely with them on a lot of my cases and they seem fabulous.

Re: Social Work job
Thanks for the ideas, I'm going to check out their websites now :)
Unfortunately, working in the city is not an option for me. DH works in the city more often than not, so it would be too expensive for the both of us to travel back and forth. There definitely are loads more jobs out there though, which sucks.
Right before I read your post, I got a call for an interview tomorrow for an agency I sent a resume to on Friday!!

I used to work at MercyFirst. You can also try Madonna Heights (all girls).

Re: Social Work job
Just wanted to add as well that if you are interested in doing case management not necessarily with kids, but disabled adults keep close eye on the job ads for home care agencies for "Service Coordination". There are a couple waiver programs, one in particular that is brand new (NHTD) , that are in the process of exploding with business on the island.
Home care agencies since they tend to be for-profits, also tend to pay much higher salaries for social workers because they can afford it, especially with all their other business from their other home care programs.
I know once we get approved for this program we are going to only be hiring MSWs, LMSWs, LCSWs, RNs and higher for these positions.

Re: Social Work job
I saw some ads for waiver programs, but I didn't know exactly what that meant. Is it pretty much what you said, a case management position going to people's homes?

Re: Social Work job
In a sense, yeah. But there's so much more involved, like any social worker position.

That's right near my house. I am pretty happy where I am now, but I am always looking to find out about other agencies because you never know, especially in this economy. Would you be able to FM me about your agency? TIA!
