Soft spot on head in an 11 mth old (esp calling 11 mth old or so moms, can you do me a favor?)
Anyone with a child around 11 mths out there, can you do me a favor? If you lightly run your hand on the top of your DCs head, do you still feel the soft spot sunken in?
I am asking b/c last night I felt DDs head and I "felt" like the soft spot was more pronounced than usual. BUT...I barely touch the top of her head so it could just be something I never noticed.
Can anyone do this for me and tell me what they feel around 11 mths old? When does the soft spot harden/close up? I am not sure if what I am feeling is normal and I just barely ever noticed or something is wrong and I should go to the ped.

Ok so you still feel it? My ped always checks DDs but we haven't been there in 2 mths I think. I just thought it felt more pronounced last night, but I generally don't feel it so that could be why. Either way, I gave her some extra formula early this am in case she was a bit in need of fluid since she didn't drink her usual amt of formula last night(sunken fontanel could indicate dehydration). It still feels the same, so I am sure it must be normal. Thanks Jen.

Yup I still feel it! I actually feel it all the time, bc I'm crazy like that! I had no idea that a sunken fontanel means dehydration!!! Good to know!!! I see my ped every month and he feels it every month and it is completely normal!

Yes, sunken can mean dehydration so it's a good thing to feel when they have a fever, etc. And bulging could mean other medical issues.

Same with DS. I think it can take 18-24 months to close up completely.

My 10.5 month old still has it a little soft spot. Her ped said they can stay up to 2 years (he said anywhere from 7mths to 2 years was normal), and he thought hers would stay on the longer side bc she had a pretty big soft spot. I asked if that was a problem at all, he said not at all. He said it's more of a problem if it closes too soon.
