Solar panel and permits

We're looking into getting solar panels. We just put in an above ground pool with a deck but didn't get permits for either one. I'm concerned that when the final inspector comes he/she may give us a hard time about what structures do or don't have permits. The solar company told us its a crapshoot. We may have an inspector that looks at nothing but the panels (and may even just do a drive by) or we could get one that busts chops. Has anyone had an issue with things that doesn't have permits?

Re: Solar panel and permits

Even if you don't get the panels, someone from the town could see your pool and deck and call you on it. I've heard rumors that some towns use Google Maps to "fly over" houses to see if they have anything that they shouldn't have. Don't know if it's true or not, but it's something very easy for the town to do.
Neighbors can also call the town and turn you in if they feel like it.

Or, you can get the panels and not have any issues at all with the other structures (until you sell the house).

You'll need the permits when you sell the house anyway, so might as well get them now. And if regulations change, you'd have to update everything to the new code. So might as well get the c/o now while the code is what you already meet.

The google map fly over happened to my brother in the town of hempstead. He was forced to take the pool down or face a hefty fine.
