Some advice needed for mom-to-be ...

My baby is due in 9 days (!) and we just moved into a new home (yes, life is beyond crazy right now!). Our new house is a split level - our bedroom is on the top floor by itself - the other bedrooms are downstairs (8 steps).

The baby will be sleeping in our room for the first few mos and I'm wondering if I need to have some sort of changing table/station in our room. I imagine I will not want to run down to the baby's room everytime she wakes up in the middle of the night and needs to be changed.

So, my questions are: 1) Do you think I need to have a changing setup in our room? 2) If so, what can I get/use that is cheap/easy (being that it's for short term use), and 3) Any other suggestions/advice?

Thanks so much!! :)

Did you get a pack and play that has a changing table attachment? DS is 7 weeks old and I use that all of the time. We actually keep the pnp in our living room, but we have a ranch and I take him to the living room to eat anyway.

ETA: If you have a low dresser in your bedroom, why don't you put the changing table pad (or get an extra) on that since it is just temporary?

I always changed DD on our bed while she was in our room. I just had a small stack of diapers and wipes on my dresser.

Yes I think you will need one. Did you get a pack n play? Mine had a changing station attached to it. It worked out great.

Or maybe something like this:

I still have trouble changing Andrew on a bed. It is too low for my back and he is more contained on a changing table.

I just changed DD on our bed too.

The PnP is a good idea. Or maybe just get a changing pad w/ cover and set it on a dresser?

Re: Some advice needed for mom-to-be ...

When DD was in our room, we used the changing table attached to the Pack N Play. Our bedroom is upstairs and DD bedroom is downstairs.

However...since we were formula feeding, I had to go downstairs to get and heat the bottle...so 9 out of 10 times, I used her room with the real changing table, since the one on the PNP was low, and hurt my back to be hunched over Chat Icon

Our house is the same exact style, and yes, you'll want something in your room until the baby moves to their own. We did the same thing - except we kind of camped out in the living room (easier to watch late night tv for feedings lol).. We just used the couch to change DD.. Just also make sure you have a place to store extra clothes/diapers, etc that is handy!

Good luck!

Same here.... we were only in our bedroom when we slept. For us there was no need to add another piece of furniture in our room. Plus as tired as I was I liked just being able to sit up and change him w/out having to get up out of bed.

Buy one of those changing pads that fit in your diaper bag (you'll need that anyway when you go out) and just change the baby on the floor.

Definitely the cheapest alternative.

Otherwise the PnP.

When my son was born early & the furniture wasn't in, we used a storage bin with a changing pad.

Thanks, everyone! Lots of good ideas ... we did get a PnP with the changing table, but I was going to use that downstairs on the main level. Perhaps just getting a changing pad will work. Would changing her IN the bassinet prove too difficult do you think?

No I've done it plenty of times. Make sure you put down the mattress pad over it. The last thing you'll need is more laundry to do.

I'm not sure if you have a 2 bathroom house. If you do, opt for 2 of the peri-bottles from the hospital. You'll need them if you have a v-birth.

Yep, we have 2 bathrooms. I'm not sure what a peri-bottle is Chat Icon but I'll try to remember to ask for two. Chat Icon

Another vote for a changing pad on the bed. It's the easiest thing. We always used the pack n play, but if you already have that set up somewhere else, the bed is the next best option.

I changed DD in her bassinet. I just placed a waterproof pad underneath her when doing so.

I wish we had set up the pack and play and used that. I just changed her on our bed and I can't tell you how hard that was on my back or how many times she peed our bed.

Our DD stayed in our room for five months since her room was so far away so I know your painChat Icon

I vote for definitely needing something in your room upstairs!!! We put the contoured changing pad on top of our dresser with a basket full of supplies next to it and used the top drawer for for his cloths and burp cloths etc. We moved all of that into his nursery when he started sleeping in his crib. Same here. I didn't think it was necessary to have two changing tables.

i use the changing table on the pack n play. if you are going to change on the bed make sure you out something under her in case she has an accident or spits up.
