Re: Some nutritional advice from my FSIL about bagels

According to FitSugar.com

The answer is 5 slices! A typical slice of bread has about 70 calories, whereas a typical bagel has about 360!

Did you know bagels are equal to about FOUR LOAVES OF BREAD!

She told me this last night...I was in SHOCK! I love bagels but this has completely ruined them for meChat Icon

Are you sure she didn't mean to say "four times your normal daily amount of bread"??

That's what my Doctor told me-- that eating a bagel gives you four times the amount of bread you are supposed to eat in ONE DAY in one SITTING lol.

I rarely eat them. They are not the worst thing in the world but they are not really good either.

She must have heard that factoid incorrectly. Chat Icon

That is what I was thinking, and it makes sense

.. heaven help us all if a bagel really was the equivalent of 4 loaves of bread... I'd be a helluva lot chunkier than I already am Chat Icon Chat Icon

I love bagels, but because of this, there is sooooo much sugar and carbs in them, I can't easily control my blood sugar. They are really nasty for diabetics. Chat Icon I never knew the exact conversion to bread, but I just know from experience that they are extremely heavy in the carb category.

that def makes more sense! I can live with that! Chat Icon usually when I eat a bagel for lunch I have skipped breakfast or I'm too full at dinner to eat much.

Re: Some nutritional advice from my FSIL about bagels

I have heard that they are equal to 4 "servings" of bread a day. So that would be about 8-10 slices.

I'm sorry but I would have her check her sources before she makes silly statements like that...I can see 4 times the recommended daily serving of bread but not 4 loaves...that just doesn't make any sense.

I think your FSIL may be a little mistaken.

I have heard 4 SLICES, but never 4 LOAVES.....Chat Icon

But maybe if it's the size of your head, and they are getting there!!!!!!

Re: Some nutritional advice from my FSIL about bagels

That really makes no sense. 4 to 8 slices i get, but loaves. The thing would have to weigh 3 pounds.
