some questions for preggos who exercise
- what kind of exercise do you do?
-what do you wear? any good places to get maternity workout clothes?
i am walking briskly for 30-45 minutes 3-4 times a week. i am also thinking about doing some light upper body strength training, but i'm not sure if it's okay...
i'm also having a really hard time finding something to work out it, and my regular workout clothes are no longer an option

Re: some questions for preggos who exercise
I go to the Gym at least 3-4 times a week and I mostly do cardio. I wouldn't do abs. My doctor told me that I can do weights but NO MORE Than 20lbs... So when I try to do my arms i dont go over 20 i usually try to do less with more reps...
I also walk everynight with my DH..
Edited: Target has some work out clothes, so does I think Kohl's and Old Navy

Re: some questions for preggos who exercise
I go walking at lunchtime with a co-worker for about 40 minutes everyday. try to go to the gym or go walking with DH 3-4 times a week as well. I do light weights (8lbs) 1-2 times a week when i'm at the gym. with gym clothing, i'm still able to where my regular workout clothing, but soon i'll have the same problem. i think any of the maternity stores---old navy or destination maternity should have workout type of clothing.

Re: some questions for preggos who exercise
I've been with a trainer since day 1. (I have a really bad back!)
I've been doing crunches every time I see her and do some upper body strength, but no more than either 5lbs dumbells or 20 on the machines. I do some squats, which are now modified to "preggie squats". We do a lot of stretching as well and leg lifts. I do cardio on my own, but by cardio I mean, I walk at a very slow pace or the eliptical machine w/ no resistance. I never go more than 20 mins at a time, I get very tired!
As far as clothes, I was wearing just a size larger sweats and mens haines t-shirts in a L. (Should've been an XL). I do have a pair of sweats from Mimi maternity, they fit very comfortably. I know Old Navy has a lot of sweats & shorts too.
Best of luck- hope that helps ya

Re: some questions for preggos who exercise
Your doctor said you could do crunches? I have heard that is a no-no all around.
I do the elliptical and the bike, I need to get to the gym more though.
I use either the resistance bands or 8 lb weights for bicep curls, and I do squats and lunges.

Re: some questions for preggos who exercise
I have "the perfect pregnancy workout" dvd which is pretty good ...gets me nice and sore the next day!
and I also try to get some walking in...I walk around my neighborhood.
I just wear regular cotton shorts and a tshirt when I do the dvd since I do it at home. For walking I'm still in my prepreggo warm up pants.
Before I was pg, I saw plenty of preggos working out their upper body at the gym. Check w/your Dr to see whats OK. If I were going to lift weights, I'd use less weight and do more repetitions.

Re: some questions for preggos who exercise
I walked 3 miles a day and did the exercise bike till 8 months(my knees started hitting my belly)
I gained 40 pounds in my second trimester, so dr had me on weight restriction.

Re: some questions for preggos who exercise
I signed myself up for yoga but it wound up hurting my sciatic nerve even more (I have problems from a prior surgery) so now I just got the Denise Austin Fit n' Firm Pregnancy DVD. I haven't done it yet though, hopefully this week!

I do the stairclimber at the gym several times a week for 30 min (I wear a heartrate monitor to make sure I dont get over 140). I havent bought work out clothes but I guess I need to bc DH laughed at me yesterday and said I was starting to look like a sausage

Re: some questions for preggos who exercise
Motherhood maternity had a bunch of work-out pants. They were around $15.99 - $19.99. I bought two pair last night for when I'm on the treadmill. They were full length but light weight.

Re: some questions for preggos who exercise
I wasn't able to do it this pregnancy, but last one I jogged up until almost the 8th month (very light jog, especially compared to my prepreggo runs - but if you were not running before, you shouldn't jog now - my OB was hesitant about it as it is one of the biggest risks to placenta separation)
I actually got away with a lot of my old workout clothes. I had bike/spandex shorts that fit over the belly and quite a few sweats that did too.
I used preggo tanks and t-shirts for tops.
