Some table food questions
Ok - we're starting to introduce more table foods to James. He had 3/4 of a blueberry waffle yesterday morning for breakfast . How do I know he's getting enough to eat? I guess with the jars it was easy because there was a set amount, KWIM? Now we'll give him a stage 3 jar and some "real" food as well. I feel like he's always hungry, though, and I just want to make usre he's getting enough to eat.
Also - do you give them everything you eat, seasoned and all? For example - tonight I'm grilling some salmon terryaki - should I grill him a plain piece, or can I give him the marinated one?

Re: Some table food questions
Personally, I'd wait on fish. If it was chicken, I'd make it the same way.
I made TacoBell seasoned something for Cinco De Mayo - I realized after the chicken was 1/2 thru cooking I probablly shouldn't have given it to DS. I pulled it out. I also make him a chicken quesadilla (told him it was grilled cheese with chicken) and he was fine. He's 2 and eats sweet sausage. I'd go a little plain on the spices for a while just to make sure its the seasoning he doesn't like or isn't ready for and not the food.

Re: Some table food questions
Awesome job James!
At that age DS did a lot of snacking so it seemed like he was hungry but really he was just eating the food because it was there. He would try ANYTHING!
As he got older it got easier to see how much he should eat. I would give him about 1/4 the size of an adult portion and then give him more if he finished that. At 21 months, he eats about 1/3 to 1/2 of an adult portion now.
Initially we gave him "bland" food but once we realized he would eat off our plates, we stopped, so he gets everything seasoned and all, though I did refrain from giving him foods that were cooked with nuts or seeds until he was a year old just in case of allergies (this was my own "rule" not the ped's suggestion).
DS had salmon about the same age, he didn't love it but didn't hate it either. I think teriyaki is fine - can I come over to eat?

Thanks! I just want to make sure that we're giving him enough to eat. Like your DS, James would eat all day long if we let him.
You can come over for dinner any time! We'd love to have ya!

Re: Some table food questions
In the beginning we would give the same amt of baby food/cereal and any table food was just for "practice." He is the same age as KJ right? I would totally give him lightly seasoned foods now, like LB said as long as there are no nuts and seeds.

Thanks! He's one day younger than KJ. I'm just always so scared that he's not going to get enough to eat.

Re: Some table food questions
My rule of thumb with formula was if he woke up hungry - he didn't eat enough. I guess the same was true with food.

Re: Some table food questions
JJ has been eating table food for some time now. Our rule of thumb is we give him his "regular" baby foods & then give him table foods so this way we know he has his normal. JJ will try ANYTHING & we give it to him seasoned & all. For me, it is about being convient. I am not going to make two separate meals so he can try something he might not like.
