Someone asked me before if I could taste the difference between pumpkin pie used with real pumpkin, and canned...
Well, I just had a piece of store bought pumpkin pie and blech! I can tell the difference. With real pumpkin, you get more texture, instead of it being smooth like baby food. And it just tastes fresher, like pumpkin, instead of being bombarded with spices.
So PSA: pumpkin is very easy to work with. Try it! Just cut it with a carving knife (from a jack-o-lantern kit), into maybe 2 or 3 sections, and microwave each section for 4-5 minutes until soft (depends on microwave. Ours is powerful). Spoon out and mash, and it's ready to use.

I have rarely had a store bought pumpkin pie that I have liked. I don't think it has to do with cans vs. fresh.. I think they just use way too much palm oil and it just doesn't taste good.
I have had good and bad experiences with both canned and fresh pumpkin pie.. but I think I might my favorite FRESH pumpkin to my favorite CANNED pumpkin because of the textural differences. But they are both pretty good to me!

Well, yeah. I'd try homemade of each then compare. But I do think real would taste better!

Sorry, much more a fan of canned than real.
Store bought doesn't count because of everything else they add in them.

You guys might be right that it was because it was store bought. Okay, next season when I have more time I'm going to do an official taste test with real and canned pumpkin!
