My God have mercy I can't even get through this.
I get the jist of it.
I want to die reading it.

Thank you for posting- it's so important.
I have heard stories like this before.
I am sending this to my DH so he makes sure everything is secure in DD"s room.

I'm an emotional wreck today with some of the stuff I've been reading....

Absolutely awful. My heart breaks for this family. Also, a much needed and very timely reminder.

Thank you for sharing this. I have been begging DH to anchor DS's dresser and wardrobe to the wall. He gives me excuses about holes in the walls and the walls not being strong enough / studs etc. I'm sick of hearing the excuses. He WILL read this when he gets home...and he WILL do every thing I've asked him to do. (he get's mad when i try to do it myself and tells me I'm doing it wrong but then doesn't do it himself)

This line killed me..

"When darkness fell, I went outside and swung on her favorite swing under the stars. I wondered what they looked like from the other side."

So saddddd.

OMG I cannot take this...so unbearably sad. I cannot believe this dresser killed her. DD has a much bigger heavier armoire in her bedroom that is not secure and I am going to call DH now to tell him to bring home something to mount it.

I cannot imagine the pain...its too much to bear Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Omg this is the saddest thing I've ever read and an excellent reminder. I am sobbing. It doesn't help that DD's name is Meghan and we call her Meggie sometimes.

DH will be securing her dressers when he gets home today.

I couldn't read the whole thing. Too heartbreaking! I'm definitely telling DH we need to anchor the dresser ASAP.

Everyone needs to finish this mothers story. As heartbreaking as it is I probably wouldn't have posted it if I didnt read her last paragraph begging people everywhere to do so. That was the part that really got me...

So I sent the link to DH - who is always like- oh she can't pull the dresser down, oh it's ok, etc etc

He was so upset by it that he said we are going out tonight to get these.

I went back and read it - the whole thing.
As difficult as it was,(and I was a sobbing mess by the end- at my desk) I am glad I did.
And like I said- I am glad I sent it to DH and he read it- see my post above.

If this story can save the life of ONE child- then this little girl's death was not in vain.

Thank you for posting

I have a 2.5 yr old DD....she's a terror and I would never put it past her for one minute that she wouldn't climb something to get what she wanted. I'm glad someone forwarded me this story.

Re: Something every parent, caregiver, grandparent etc. should read. Warning: It is extremely sad

This happened to me when I was a kid.

I think I was living in New Jersey, and was 8?

I remember the dresser falling on me, but NOTHING happened. I wasn't hurt. I even remember being under the dresser...but I don't remember what I was feeling at the time (scared? upset? affraid I was in troubbl)

But I REMEMBER thinking "I can open the drawers and climb up to get the XYZ"

Vividly.

Even at 8 years old kids have no understanding, sometimes, of what CAN happen.

Also, br VERY careful of large flat screen TV's.

They should be secure as well. I recently (2 weeks ago?) saw a report on the Today show of children being killed by TV's falling on them.

How heartbreaking. We have a few things that were never secured right so i am making it a priority this weekend.

Everyone who says they can't read it, I think we owe it to this mother to read it if you secure one thing because of this story. Maybe not at work, maybe at night or something but i think its the least we can do. It is easy for us to say we "can't" read it, this poor women can't ever stop thinking about this and living this nightmare.
