something is wrong with Jedi
Okay so here's the story:
Yesterday Jedi threw up and it seriously looked like orange juice. Now today, he didn't eat his food. This morning at 6am he went pee. HOWEVER, from 6am until 1pm he did NOT go the bathroom at all... no pee, no poop, no nothing. He is almost 5 months old. Now he should have gone pee twice and pooped already by 1pm.
We called the vet and they said to monitor him and if nothing changes, to bring him in tomorrow.
But this makes me nervous. Am i worrying too much?

Re: something is wrong with Jedi
As long as you called the vet and they are aware of what's going on, I wouldn't worry too much.
Everytime Dottie made a funny noise, I would FREAK out! DH was like, you have to calm down.
Jedi might have thrown up bile, which is common if they have something in their throats and try to make themselves throw up. They also go through phases with food. Sometimes they just aren't in the mood to eat. I think the smaller dogs are more finicky.
Don't worry!!! He'll be ok.

even though he didn't go to the bathroom for 7 hours?? he is only a puppy that so is highly unusual for him.

Re: something is wrong with Jedi
You are doing the right thing by taking him to the vet. When our rotti was a pup we had times where he would throw up once or twice a week. (Most of the time it was because he ate something he shouldn't have or he gagged on something.) But since with your pup it was mostly orange liquid, the vet is your best bet. for your baby.

Re: something is wrong with Jedi
Was it foamy when he vomitted? My smaller dogs throw this up every now & again. I forgot what it is, but I know that the weather change or a change in their food or habit can bring it on.
The not going to the bathroom thing might bother me a little, but just watch Jedi's belly to make sure it does not become disdended. If it starts to protrude then I might consider bringing him in as an emergency.
Were you the poster who was not entirely thrilled with the vet's office you were dealing with (I apologize if it was not you, I just want to make sure you are confident in their service )

Sounds like bile. Did he eat something different? Our dog did this when we first got him - it turned out to be Parvovirus...but he caught that from being at the kennel. Just keep an eye on him and if he keeps throwing up, bring him to the vet. Try and get him to drink water so he doesn't get dehydrated.

Re: something is wrong with Jedi
okay so jedi seemed to be doing better last night. He finally went to the bathroom and even ate a bit of his food. Unfortunately i think he had a fever last night... his nose was dry and warm.
This morning he didn't eat anything and he didn't go pee from 7:30am until 4:30pm.
We took him to the vet, but he didn't have a fever, he's not dehydrated, etc. So according to the vet, Jedi is fine and not showing any physical problems.
But something is wrong. He's been very lazy these past 2 days, which is unusual for him. Plus he hasn't been eating like normal and for him not go to the bathroom for 9 hours???
The vet said to monitor him and if nothing changes... than to call them tomorrow. They said they can take blood if we want.
Am i being neurotic? How can this be okay?

Not being neurotic. I would definitely have them take blood. How are they making the assessment that he is OK without doing bloodwork? Did they do any internal exam of any sort...a stool analysis maybe?

we haven't had poop to bring in. I mean sure we can find some from yesterday... but... would that do?
If he's not better by tomorrow, i told the vet that i'm bringing him in for blood work.

Re: something is wrong with Jedi
I would have them do an xray of his stomach. My dog Sarge, had a very similar issue. It turned out that, he ate a penny and couldnt pass it and it became toxic. He had to have surgery. Im not saying this is what is wrong with Jedi, but I would have them check, just in case.

I just saw this on emergency vets!! I NEVER knew that coins did that. Granted, they were swallowed by a giant Iguana, but they were turning toxic in his system
Very interesting.
How's the little guy this morning??

Yeah i know. We're going to bring him back for bloodwork and possibly the x-ray depending on how he does today.

I don't know. He went both pee and poop this morning, but he didn't touch his food. So we'll have to see how the day goes. Steve's home with him... so... i guess we'll wait and see for a few hours.
What would you do?

Re: something is wrong with Jedi
I would take him to the vet and demand they do bloodwork and check his tummy.
A Mommy knows best!!
There's obviously something wrong and I find they're a bit lax there too when it comes to "diagnosing" things. It depends on the doctor. You know, ask for another doctor maybe. I know Hollander is a bit abrasive, but he's goooood. He told me things about Peanut (after 3 years of going there) that NO ONE ever mentioned to me! So...
If you don't mind the bills, then I would go back.

Maybe take him to another vet? I wish I could give you some advice, but I don't own a dog, just cats. But if you are worried and you feel that your vet isn't doing enough maybe take him somewhere else. I hope he feels better

yeah don't bother with McCarthy. I'm just not a fan and he treats you like you're an idiot. Don't like that.
yes steve thinks that the vets office in general thinks that we're nuts!!! He hates bringing our animals because he feels like they're thinking "oh here they are again!" But i don't care! We have 3 animals and they're our babies. What do you expect?!?!?

so what kind of symptoms was your dog showing? was he going to the bathroom less frequently and not eating much?

Im not saying this is what is wrong with Jedi, but I would have them check, just in case. My Pyxie had this too. She swallowed a penny, but it was too big to pass through her intestines & stayed in her stomach, but blocked any food from passing as well. They removed it with a laproscope (i think that is what it is called), but she looked to have signs of bloat, which is why I recommend keeping an eye on his tummy.
Honestly if you do not feel that the Dr is taking the proper time with your pet, or is not being thorough, then you need a new vet. (IMO) And yes, as Jedi's mommy you are more in-tune with him & can tell when something is off. The vet cannot, and if they are not exhausting every possible test to see what is going on, then they are not doing their job.
I hope you get some better answers from the Dr today
