I think the reason they do this is because the people already are in contract for the house they chose and their realtor just shows them other houses to make the show more interesting - and they don't know what else to say about the house.

I agree, I think it is just to make conversation with the camera. I LOVe that show though.

So do I!! I like any show that lets you see the inside of people's houses Chat Icon

Ang, I know what you mean - it is supposed to be somewhat interesting. Watching some say "I'll have to paint this room" in every room is not interesting to watch.

I have to say Ang, not everyone is as great with decorating as you. Chat Icon Like Thomas said, a lot of people (DH and I included) are looking to just move in...redoing floors/wallpaper removal/extensive painting is not in the equation. But yes, it can get quite annoying when the house is in otherwise great shape. I just think that show is completely scripted and they have to do that. Chat Icon

As for the price issue...some of the episodes do say the price (I think it's up to the homeowner)...the Texas one did say the median price (as was mentioned)...gotta love Texas - $180K for a 4 bedroom with in-ground pool! Chat Icon Chat Icon

OMG Danielle and I always say the same thing - It drives us nuts when the people on the shows go into a house, and say - I dont know - I dont really like the carpet or the color on the walls...I am sitting there screaming at the TV - so change the Carpet and Paint the rooms....You gotta expect that you are going to do some work to the house to make it into something that you like. I'm not saying - rip out the bathroom and gut the kitchen, if you cant afford it. If you can, then thats great.

We didnt walk into our house and say we dont like the carpet or the paint on the walls. The carpet was new. We ripped 85% of it up and put down Laminite Wood Floors. The walls were all white - we painted them. The bathroom we redid. The one thing we did not like was that there was no openess. we needed flow - which we created by knocking the wall down between the living room and then master bedroom and installing sliding doors out to the yard to create a nice formal dining room....

We didnt have to do that stuff - but we wanted to - to make it ours. Thats what I dont understand about the people on these shows. I know most of the show is scripted, it is so obvious. But you know that most people will change the carpet and paint.....Its a given.

The only time I can really see it being an issue is if the home is at the very top of someone's price range and they have absolutely no money for renovations at all. Usually, most people would have enough to repaint, but sometimes wallpaper or flooring can get expensive and it might be a dealbreaker. If the money isn't going to be there to make the home what you want, to me it's not worth getting it. Money is always a factor.

omg! I always say that when i'm watching. These are the easiest things to change in a home, so why complain?
