Sometimes I feel bad hanging up on telephone solicitors

I know, I know, I shouldn't, they are bothering me at home on my time, but I feel bad hanging up on someone who is just trying to do some work.

But, the faster you hang up, the faster they can get to another caller who may buy something from them.... Staying on the line costs that person a commission from someone else.

That's why I'm always "nice" to callers and hang up on them immediately...

I usually say "Thank you for the call but please remove my name from the list as I am not interested, goodbye"

I hang up right after that b/c if you don't they try to push whatever it is AGAIN but I feel better that at least I am saying "goodbye" before hanging up the phone.

I dont, DH tells them yes Im interested please hold and then leaves the phone until they hang up. The record is 15 min, someone waited for him to come back, then they hung up.

Yes just ask them to take you off the list. It does not count as a "no" towards their night and they're required to do so by law.

I feel bad as well. I know I would not be happy in a job where most of the time people are hanging up the phone on me.
I just simply say "No Thank You" and leave it at that.

Agreed. WHat is really starting to annoy me though is when I get a call and it is a machine and it tells me to wait for the next operator...umm, what??/

i feel bad the FIRST time i tell them...but when you're trying to get off the phone and they keep talking and you have tell them 3 more times "thanks but no thanks", i stop feeling bad.

I used to feel bad until I got caller ID and whenever I see a weird number I don't bother answering.

I don't feel bad at all. Most of the time I don't even let them get their first word out. When I pick up, if there is any delay, I hang up immediately.

Don't feel bad- I did something very juvenile to a telemarketer today.

I usually say "Thank you, I'm not interested". Some people can be mean, but I figure they are just trying to earn a buck.

You could always just register on the DNC registry:
