Soothing baby during diaper changes?
DD will be 2 weeks old on Tuesday. She HATES to be diapered. The minute we lay her on her changing pad she screams and i can't soothe her at all. Any advice? i try talking to her, putting my hand on her shoulder, being gentle - the paci, etc. nothing helps. it kills me at 3:00 a.m.

Re: Soothing baby during diaper changes?
At this point, nothing might work - after a while, she will equate the changing table with feeling more comfortable and will actually start smiling and cooing there - give it a few more weeks!!!!
Also - Cailen loves the changing table, but if he wakes up for a bottle, and I change him 1st, you can bet he screams bloody murder the whole time! She could be hungry, and want to eat - you may want to try changing her after she eats a little, but like I said, I think it will be one of those things she will get used to - like that bath!!!

Re: Soothing baby during diaper changes?
I think what happens with newborns and changing diapers is that they are all warm and closed in when they have their diapers and pj's on (just like they were in the womb) and once you take the PJ's and diaper off, they feel exposed, so they scream about it. So I say give it a while until the baby gets a bit more comfortable with the world around them, and you will be fine.
I wonder if that beats chasing a toddler with poo all up their back around the house at 7.30 in the morning while trying to get out of the house to go to work, all the while praying that that big clump of poo doesn't fall off onto the carpeting...
Oooh, it all gets better and better with age!

Lily did the same thing when she was that young - she hated to be naked! I learned to change her diapers as quickly as possible so she wouldn't be as upset for that long. Now, she's 4 months old and she smiles and giggles during diaper changes. And since she's found her feet, she even lifts her legs when it's time to take the diaper off and put a new one on!
