Sorry this is a bit gross... but finger up the nose?

My DD came up with this "wonderful" idea to sit there and put her index finger up her nose. When we tell her to take it out or remove it for her, she giggles. She thinks she is being very funny. I'm not sure where she got this from or why she finds it amusing, but one - it's gross and 2 - I'm afraid she's going to make her nose bleed. She isn't picking anything out and I've also placed drops in her nose and aspirated her wondering if maybe she's doing it b/c it's bothering her and she can't tell us vocally. I've tried ignoring her when she does it, but she giggles when I look away... so nothing's working. It's not a constant thing, but it's happened enough for me to be concerned and one time was in public and another in the car. GFB we hit a bump or stopped short her nose would be bleeding. She's only 13 months old, so I'm not sure what would work.

There are times when we are driving and I look back at my son to find his finger jammed up his nose Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Most of the time he tells me that he is taking out a 'boogie' but sometimes I think he does it for the heck of it...sort of like 'this fits in here' Chat Icon

I usually just ignore him or move his hand away while goign about whatever I am doing...I try not to say anything but if he keeps at it I will ask if he has boogies. At 2 it's easier to have that conversation with a response back but I know your DD is younger.

I do think that this is something that passes. I see my son do it less and less. We try to never make a big deal over it or give it any attention. At first it was embarassing but I got over that fast. It is what it is. Chat Icon

Honestly, just act as if she's not doing it at all and she'll stop getting amused by it and it'll stop altogether.

At 13 months, I don't think you're going to be able to convince her to stop....
Unfortunately, you're going to have to wait this one out and it'll pass.

She's a kid. They stick their fingers up their noses. Yes, its gross, but at the same time, its not the end of the world.

Even if she does make herself bleed, it won't hurt her, and maybe she will stop.

I have to say this - Jack will sometimes stick fingers up both nostrils and then go "BOOM" and pull them out at the same time - like they are exploding. I literally pee in my pants when he does this - it cracks me up. If he was 4 and doing it, I wouldn't think it's so funny, but right now it's quite adorable! Chat Icon

OMG- I just totally laughed at that visual.Chat Icon

I agree with the PPs- just completely ignore it and she'll eventually stop.
