Sorry, gross question: How do you get snot out of your baby's nose? Do you use a nasal aspirator?

Do you use a nasal aspirator? Can you recommend yours?

Do you ever use a Qtip to clean your baby's nose?

I tried and I ended up pushing it in more. Tweezers also are too big. Help please.

I just googled nasal aspirator and this Nosefrida Nasal Aspirator popped up. What do you think? Should I get it?

I take half the cotton off the end of the Qtip and then it works pretty well at cleaning out everything!Chat Icon

Mostly I let it come out on its own. DS is so squirmy I'm afraid I'm gonna poke him in the eye with the aspirator. If I see it hanging low Chat Icon I'm wipe it with a tissue.

Please don't use a tweezer!

When he was younger I would use an aspirator or the pointy makeup qtips. Now I pick his nose with my nail if it's near the openingChat Icon

I just can't stand to see a booger in his nose...lol.

I use that blue bulb aspirator from the hospital - I think they sell them at BRU. But only when DD is not squirming.

I won't use the tweezer!

1. it's too big anyways
2. i'd be afraid that DS would squirm and I'd hurt him by accident

Exactly! I can't stand to see a booger in his nose either. DH just told me to leave it alone but it drives me nuts when I can hear DS breathing harder due to the snot in his nose.

The pointy makeup Qtip is a great idea! I'll pick some up tomorrow when I go buy a nasal aspirator.

I use Little Noses saline drops and then follow up with the nasal aspirator/bulb syringe from the hospital. I have tried soooo many brands to keep a spare in the diaper bag and they all SUCK!! So, if you want a good one, go to a surgical supply store. Using the saline drops prior helps to loosen things up and it helps to keep DD's nose from getting irritated.

DH actually works at the hospital so I'll tell him to pick one up from the supply closet.

I just read reviews on BRU and they said that the one sold at BRU isn't as good as the ones at the hospital.

The bulb asiprator is very simple to use. We ended up with a few of them because we got so many gift baskets and things from the NICU. There's one that I like and a different one that DH likes--for the baby, I mean!

Same here, I use the one from the hospital. Although DS hasn't been sick much so I've only had to use it once or twice. For the boogers I can see i use my finger Chat Icon

You mentioned DH is a physician. Do what mine did- have him get the nasal aspirator and saline bullets from the hospital. The hospital ones are hands down the best! Also, the saline bullets have a higher sodium chloride concentration than the drops found in the store. (Though when we run out of the saline bullets, I use Little Nose Drops!)

My DD hates the aspirator, but I use it anyway. I try to use it after the bath when the boogies are soft.

This is what I use too. Works wonder. That green aspirator is the best IMO...I had another one and it was so hard to get DD's boogers out. Of course if I can use my finger I do that too...Chat Icon Chat Icon I hate seeing boogers in DD's nose.

you asked...how do you use it?

when using it, press the bulb before you enter the nose. keep it pressed when entering and release after you see the boogie. Do Not press the bulb while in the nose. This will create air into the nasal cavity. Also, i always try to place the aspirator against the nasal wall. hope this makes sense

I've done the same with both kids.... The hospital aspirators are the best.

After I put the saline drops in their nose, I depress the aspirator and then close us one nostril. I put the aspirator in the open nostril and let the bulb inflate. Then repeat on the other side. It seems to be the best way to get most of the snot out if they are really congested.

We use an aspirator if it is affecting his breathing, other wise I just go in with a twisted tissue. Both boys HATE anyone going near their nose.
