Sorry to be so uninformed, looking for info ( IUI related )
Hi everyone, As many of you know I am starting IUI with Follistim and Lovenox injections next cycle If AF comes I am reporting to RE's office.
Please tell me what I can expect-
How oftewn I will be going to RE?
How often for those intravaginal sonograms ?( assuming necessary to check for impending ovulation)
How many IUI attempts do they usually do in a month?
I am supposing that all this talk about follicle#s pertains to this process-
Any other info I should know? (experience or otherwise)
I know that I should have asked the RE's office but sometimes I feel like they don't want me to get ahead of myself.
Thanks for any feedback, just really want to understand what I am dealing with and so many of you have been through
Thanks again

Re: Sorry to be so uninformed, looking for info ( IUI related )
I am doing follistim/repronex and IUI. I go to the doctor about every other day or every 3rd day for bloodwork and sonograms. My dr. likes to do 2 iuis each month - one before ovulation and one after (at least that's what he did for my clomid cycle). i think they give you a trigger shot when your follicles reach about 18-20 mm. Hope that hleps....

Re: Sorry to be so uninformed, looking for info ( IUI related )
I did a bunch of IUI's with Bravelle and Repronex. Usually they would start me on the injections around CD5 or so. I would have an internal sono on CD3 to make sure there were no cysts and then start injections a few days later. I would go back around CD10 for internal sono and bloodwork and usually every 2 to 3 days after until there was a least one follicle at 18 -20 mm. Then I would do an HCG shot and go in for IUI a day or so later. My RE only did one IUI, but a lot do 2. That would be it until 14 days after trigger(HCG) when I would either get AF or go for a PG test. Do question your RE because if you have to do the injections, they may want you to take a class and the classes are fairly infrequent so you want to be prepared.

How oftem will be going to RE?
For an unmedicated IUI it was about 3-4 times per cycle for me. For the medicated ones, it was mroe often, about 1-2 times at the very beginnign and then every day to every other day from cd10-11 on.
How often for those intravaginal sonograms? Every visit
How many IUI attempts do they usually do in a month? 1...but my clinic did it on 2 sperate dates, so I guess 2. It was back to back for two days.

Yep IUI and IVF success is based on follicles....the more, the better chance of a good quality egg. Although for IUI you dont want too many because you dont want to risk a severe multiple situation.
Any other info I should know? Its a little stressful with teh appointments etc, but the IUI itself is like a pap smear if not EASIER. Its a 3 minute procedure ( if that) and you lay down for 10 minutes after and then go home...then the hard part ( the waiting) begins....
GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for that great explanation- you hit the nail on the head about the waiting it's our worst enemy
