Sorry to crash. "Unexplained Infertilty" Question.
What steps did you go through to figure out that you had "Unexplained Infertility?"
I see that term a lot and I'm just wondering how a doctor comes to that conclusion. What testing had to be done? How long had you been trying without getting pregnant before seeking help? Did you find this out through an RE?
Thank you

Re: Sorry to crash. "Unexplained Infertilty" Question.
The how long question will be different for everyone. They usually tell you depending on your age to come after either 6 months or 12 months of TTC w/ no luck. Some people choose not to wait that long. They will probably start w/ baseline CD3 bloodwork and check a lot of your hormonal levels. They will probably also want your DH/SO to get a SA done. HTH!

Thank you.
We saw the NP at my ob/gyn's office and she told us to try for a year before seeking more help.
I wasn't too satisfied with that answer. We've been trying for 9 months. 1 month just not using protection, 3 months with OPKs, and 5 months using the CBEFM and we're still not pregnant.
DH just had SA done and it came back normal.
I guess I'm just wondering what the next steps are. I want to me more aggressive about this and not just waste a year trying if something could potentially be stopping us from getting pregnant.
Thanks for your help

Re: Sorry to crash. "Unexplained Infertilty" Question.
We have unexplained IF at this point and basically what it means is that after going through a ton of tests for both me and DH, there is no identified cause of our infertility.
ETA: I started seeing a RE after 6 months of TTC eventhough my gyn told me to wait a year. I was not willing to wait that long.

I think 9 months of trying will satisfy most RE's. Do you need a referral?
Yes, we need a referral.
DH is actually at our PCP now, going over the SA results and he's going to ask if she can give us a referral.

Re: Sorry to crash. "Unexplained Infertilty" Question.
I would call your Ob/Gyn again and tell them you're not going to wait the full 12 months for personal reasons and you'd like a referral now (if the other dr doesn't give you one).
